I'm 67, have mild COPD, smoked since childhood. I know I should stop but I don't seem to have the courage. Any help welcome.

Hi 0064 and welcome to Quit Support πŸ‘‹πŸ‘‹πŸ‘‹

I'm just wondering if you have tried any form of NRT πŸ€”cos this really does help us πŸ‘please have a good look at our Pinned Posts cos there is lots of help and advice there πŸ‘

Maybe see if your GP's or local chemist do quit smoking cessations cos then you would get your NRT free or at a reduced price πŸ‘

Hope to speak soon πŸšπŸ˜€πŸ˜Ί

Hi 0064, First of all welcome to Quit Support.

Its not an easy task but it is possible. I personally quit when I was 61 and because I was getting too many chest infections. I also suffer with copd.

May I suggest looking through our pinned posts for loads of info and tips. here is the link.

First of all make a plan, decide on when you think would be a good time to start a quit journey. choose a date and stick to it.

Get prepared. think about using a nicotine replacement (I used an inhalator) there are various nrts available , patches, lozenges.spray mist, prescription drugs,e.cigs , You can always swap and change if one doesnt suit you. Also you may find that for example you use patches, but if you get strong cravings you could use gum to have the extra help. Mix and match.

Write down the reasons you want to quit and put it somewhere you will see it each day.

keep busy especially your hands, dont dwell on smoking distraction works.

Come on to this forum regularly as we post hints etc everyday. plus you can ask any question no matter how trivial, we are here everyday.

Just let us know when you decide on a date and we can add you to our database. and update your progress badge. (next to your name).

We look forward to supporting you. 😊x

It’s hard at first but you will soon see the benefits especially health wise. Don’t be too hard on yourself if you have a blip 😊 start again and do things differently routine NRT keeping busy You can do this ! πŸ’ͺ😊 and we are not far away if you need any support! It can be daunting giving up something you have done for years but with a different routine and help it can be achieved good luck πŸ€žπŸ˜ŠπŸ’ƒπŸŽΆπŸ•ΊπŸ»xxxxx
