This is the main New Year tradition in our household - even my daughters seek it out online to watch. First shown on German TV 60 years ago it is the 90th birthday party of Miss Sophie and all her dearest friends have been invited. Just one problem - they have all "gone before" so the hapless butler, James, has to stand in for them all for the toasts. With a predictable outcome!
I first watched it a week after my daughter had been born by c-section - I was rolling on the floor holding my stomach which hurt from laughter. I still laugh every time ...
oh yes absolutely! Our German daughter in law introduced us to it and yes, it always makes us laugh. I believe that in Germany it is essential viewing on NYs eve. For some reason I forgot and instead we watched The Big Labowsky instead. Also a classic
Happy New Year from Edinburgh. This makes me giggle every year too. π
A reflection of how long Iβve been on this forum perhaps but a very positive one.
Wishing you all much happiness and improving health. This is the first year since 2016 that Iβm steroid free and have been for two months but Iβve still got my fingers crossed. Itβs been a very, very rocky road for me but you have been so supportive I would have been lost without you and DL. π
Wishing you and everyone a very Happy New Year and many thanks for all your help. I hate to think how different my journey through PMR would have been ,if I had not discovered this forum.
This has become part of my 'online' new year tradition. Thank you pmrpro for the laugh every year (like it is the 1st time), but more especially for your wisdom, humour and *** occasionally, bringing reality to potty situations from a caring position. The time the you and DL give to this forum is amazing. Happy New Year to you and sincere hopes it is a healthier year.
And a happy new year to everyone, the sun is shining and we've all had a good laugh fom the mulligatawny to the fruit. Butler James is a master of comic timing! Prost! xπ€£
Happy New Year to you Pro. Grateful thanks to you, Dorset lady and SnazzyD for all your help and wisdom and wishing everyone on this forum a Happy and pain free 2025.
yes, itβs brilliant! Thank you all you lovely and helpful people. Iβm so glad I finally found this forum. Happy new year to everyone , and may some of our wishes and dreams come true.
When I used to teach English as a foreign language the German students used to tell me about this annual viewing ritual and knew it off by heart like the Brits can do the Dead parrot sketch etc. "I shall do my very best". Thanks for sharing as I'd never actually seen it, as today is my first day back at the computer it's got my New year off to a good start
This year on German TV was the 60th anniversary (I think) so there were extra programmes - including a quiz on the history associated with it. I would usually prefer to have teeth pulled than watch quizes but it was great and I learnt quite a bit. FF's sons were on it as well.
Shame, you'd be a useful addition to my local pub Quiz team. And I was going to put you down as my Phone a Friend if I ever manage to get on Who wants to be a Millionaire? I love both writing and doing quizzes
I usually do OK on the Mastermind general knowledge - the Celebrity episodes are usually much easier questions. Maybe I should try and get on that with my specialist subject being PMR? They'd probably get you to write the questions! Hey we could clean up between us
