Apparently it is now cult amongst Gen Z! Keep anything long enough and it comes back into fashion ...
For those who don't know - it was made in 1963 with a British comedian/actor Freddie Frinton. His mistress is celebrating her 90th birthday. Of course, all her friends have "gone before" so it is all set-up for a rather feisty lady! Frinton was tee-total!
It is watched on Sylvester, New Year's Eve in all German-speaking regions and there are now local regional dialect versions and a colour version - they were about to redo it in colour when Freddie Frinton died but the miracles of technology have created that as well.
I hope you enjoy watching it as much as I have for the last 40 years - the first time was just after my daughter had been born by c-section and I rolled on the floor holding my stomach to be able to laugh!
Please tell me if it isn't working for you - it is working for me. The first link I used - from last year - was unavailable so I changed it.
This is the link DorsetLady has added further down the thread and which works
Spoke to my son earlier, he’s been re-inforcing fencing with help of granddaughter this morning… very windy along the coast overnight - so he’s not expecting to see the new year in! I may do… 😊

Been banned on our village - hasn't been much for the last few years really but who knows what the Italian tourists will decide to do! Should be snowing by then if it gets this far! That may dampen their enthusiasm. Some places in Italy have banned sale of anything but silent ones.
That is wonderful to hear. Let’s hope the trend spreads. They cause misery for so many animals especially the wild ones. It is so unnecessary to have them like army ordinance.
We first heard about this from some German guests at our B& B back in the 90s. We were intrigued by their description and they were kind enough to send us a video of it when they got home
Wishing you all a Happy New Year. As I'm typing this it is already 7:30 PM New Years day in sunny Auckland. I'll be watching Dinner for One soon, now that you have supplied a link. I had it on VCR when the tradition was introduced to my family in NZ by someone who taught in Germany for some years at an International School. I forgot about it with the passing of our VCR machine. ⚰️ So thank you for the reintroduction. 🙏
Happy New Year to one and all. I had tickets to same event! Nearly 4 hrs sleep until huge firework. Result.
May we all continue to support each other, share good news stories but also be able to seek help, vent, etc. Many thanks to those who give so freely of their time. May also some threads go off on one and give us a good laugh.
Hilarious!! He's just so good!! 😂 HNY to you Pro, and a big thank you for advice and encouragement again this year. You, DL, Jane and others have been life-changing for so many of us. Enjoy this magical time of year. 🌹🥀
A happy new year to all, thanks for all the good advise all on this forum give, I for one would be lost without your help......love the clip....a real good start to 2024 🥳🥳🥳🥳
Hahaha! As soon as I saw the heading I knew what you were referring to - we watch this film every Christmas, usually several times with various gatherings! It never fails to amuse me even now I know it line for line! I hope you have had a lovely festive break - thank you for all that you do on this forum xxx
Given the repeats on TV - can hardly escape it can you! Though the children's offerings on German TV are actually the same as my children watched back then. Don't think that happens in the UK as much does it?
A Happy New Year to you too Pro. A heartfelt thank you for everything you do for this forum. You (and others with lots of experience ) continue to be my lifeline.🌸🌸
