Hope you are all having a lovely day. I have company for the first time since before Covid - older daughter and her partner are here. The weather is glorious though with less attractive very plus temperatures up at the top of the mountain which won't be doing the snow any good!

Seasons greetings to you PMR pro, so lovely you have family with you at last. I have just successfully used your dead slow taper to get from 10 to 9.5, so I am very grateful to you for your wisdom, knowledge and experience. First time in 3 years I haven't had to go back up. Have a wonderful Christmas and best wishes for better health to everyone for 2024. Missing my Ted, first Christmas without him in 53 years. But I am lucky to have family all living within driving distance. I feel for all of you that have children living overseas. Have a wonderful day. From a soggy but warm NZ .

Happy Boxing Day now Christmas Day is over! Hope you don’t have a hangover! Lovely to have your daughter and her partner with you. Both skiers?

But most important is thank you for all the support and ironing out of confusions, your invaluable knowledge and your kindness to always be there!

PMRpro profile image
PMRproAmbassador in reply toRidge

No - daughter does, partner doesn't. But far too expensive now - a day pass is over 60 euros, and hiring gear on top, don't even know if you can hire skiwear! But it is no fun this week anyway - the place is HEAVING and it is downright dangerous. No likelihood of me having a hangover - I was driving. Not so sure about them!!

Pixix profile image
Pixix in reply toPMRpro

Wow! Over 60 euros for a day pass??!!! I think the conditions are lousy, though, & could easily lead to broken legs & pulled muscles/tendons! It sounds more like spring conditions! We left it too late one year, & all I could think was that it was like trying to ski in a bowl of very thick soup!! Much harder on the legs, too. Plenty of queues at the lifts!! Hope you had a lovely day yesterday. Ours was great, & I managed an hour walking in the forest, prawns in whisky vol au vents homemade for lunch, much present unwrapping, then cooked the main meal etc etc! But this morning I’m wiped out, & in bed. Will rise shortly, though walking is very painful today. We are going to watch the hunt depart…lots of bloodhounds, no foxes, they follow human trail, & try & catch the guy, then cover him in slobbery kisses! Enjoy Boxing Day, I’m glad one of your daughters wasn’t working, for a change! S xx

PMRpro profile image
PMRproAmbassador in reply toPixix

Not even spring - the freezing level is well above 3000m, it is 2 whole days since the temperature fell below 5C at 2000m on the Sella Ronda just up the road! Think it was a bit lower up the top here, but not a lot. That means it chops up from the first run down and since most up there are tourist skiers who drag their skis round it'll be like a ploughed field in short order! Bet the ED is full of mangled knees! That was what contributed to my giving up - the very top was OK, after a couple of hundred metres it wasn't and I decided to go home - but I had to finish the run first. I didn't manage.

Even the other one got the day free - she had night shift CE to CD ...

Pixix profile image
Pixix in reply toPMRpro

Oh, boy. I think it was the warmest Christmas Day on record in England…but as snow fell in Scotland, those who bet on a snowy day have won! There only needs to be one snowflake!! Yes, ploughed field was our Spring problem in Valmorel, that & the weather being too hot for the ski gear we had with us! You’re right, it will be twisted knees all round. Shame you didn’t manage your run, that’s sad. We were lucky, injury wise, for sure. Glad your other daughter had her day free, too! S x

Ridge profile image
Ridge in reply toPMRpro

Oh gosh yes! I remember those times to stay clear of the slopes although back then it would be considered quiet to day I suspect! Back then it was considered cool to ski in jeans but that doesn’t help with the boots and ski hire 🤷‍♀️. Now it’s hazard gear and crash helmets all to do with short skies and snowboards me thinks. Still you have the fine healing mountain air! Do love the mountains!

PMRpro profile image
PMRproAmbassador in reply toRidge

Yes - I blame carving skis - makes people think they can ski after a couple of hours lesson. No they can't - no concept of what to do when it goes pear-shaped. They are now starting to say they NEED back protectors.

Ridge profile image
Ridge in reply toPMRpro

Oh goodness! Back protectors!? Well we, humans, do manage to ruin things.

PMRpro profile image
PMRproAmbassador in reply toRidge

Truth be told - after toppling over on one of our 6 black runs as a teenager and descending most of the rest head first, my nephew requested I accompany him to buy a helmet and backprotector. That was a LONG time ago!

Merry Christmas and thank you for all you do PMR pro…Your weather sounds familiar we are zero percent of normal snowpack we live at 3200ft our lawn is still green local ski resort making snow but very few runs are open… warmth feels great but it’s scary to think of next summe.. holidays tend to take one outside their comfort zone this Xmas was no different our son and his wife tested positive for Covid Xmas eve so we had all grandkids & great grandson less parents feeling our age by late afternoon lol…

We had a full two days with our children. Very warm here so no snow just fog.

I served an easy dinner on Christmas Eve and we opened Christmas gifts from us. Christmas morning I made the traditional Swedish tea rings for breakfast at our daughter’s home and watched the children open their gifts. Then scurried home to make baked beans to go with their ham. It was a lovely two days.

Today we are driving to see my mom and have taco salad at our niece’s house for lunch with her! Then it’s three days of rest!

Have a blessed New Year!

Hope you’re having a wonderful Christmas Pro. Thank you for all your support since I joined the forum eighteen months ago. Your knowledge and advice has been most appreciated.

We had our son and family here to celebrate Christmas and my birthday. It was wonderful despite my husband testing for Covid late on Christmas Day after feeling rough and looking increasingly worse as the day wore on. Our son has left the house of lurgy this morning and we’re both masked up and keeping away from each other. Wish me luck that I avoid it. So far testing negative. I am very fatigued but put that down to the excitement and preparations for Christmas.
