hi my friends...i responded to a post a short while ago, so i thought i'd say hello, miss you all and thought i'd send a one-finger update.
i broke my right arm when i went to canada for granddaughter's grad...second day there.....graceful, huh! had shoulder replacement surgery 7/10. it will be a while, six weeks in sling, no movement then lots of therapy. it is my writing and painting hand.....bad move!
the good news is this was the first time i took travel and flight insurance...i only did that because i read a question about travel ins if you had gca...on this wonderful forum. withFaye.com. they cover international travel.......and have already paid all medical bills incurred in canada. good reference from me!!!!!
i stopped my actemra before surgery in case i needed any antibiotics ---just resumed--- and have decided to stay put at 3 mg pred...don't need any added stress, i do have 20 hours of home help per week...50% mental lift and 50% physical need or you would get a wiff of me in london!
so...once again...no more beauty contests for me this year~! love and prayers to all you angels.

I was an eastern passage in albuquerthe edge of the scotia and went to the dark meadow hospitalThat's dictation for you! Dartmouth hospital period that they were very kind, thank you.
Morning Grammy, blooming heck you do manage to put yourself through the wars. Hope it didn't totally ruin your trip to Canada and that you managed to get to/enjoy your GC's graduation. Gold star for the insurance and at least they seem to have sorted things out quickly. Shame about the beauty contests but they will, once again, just have to cope without you!! Stress you/we can certainly do without, hope things go well with the recovery. Best wishes and take care.
Hi, Grammy. You must stop all this attention seeking! Iโm surprised at the lengths you go to to obtain sympathy ๐. Now you must master using your left hand for your artistic pursuits and we expect photos of your efforts to enable us to critique ๐๐.
Typically, you are playing โPollyannaโs Glad Gameโ and have turned negatives into positives. I wish you well, Grammy. ๐ป๐
Still, here and kitchen period period topped it off. Last night with a fall down to stairs. But thank God all of my hardware is where it's supposed to be.xx
Can you believe I just saw this? Of course, you can. I'm trying to find the post I got notified about that you wrote looking for comments regarding us doctors.. And I found this instead. I still have a scrape on the front of my right leg which hasn't healed but I am going to the wound clinic each week for an ulcer on my tailbone as well as the skin loss on my shin. I stopped taking my Actemra so I wouldn't invite infection. I'm going to be checking on that with my rheumatologist tomorrow because since July 10th, I have had only one injection. All Things Considered, my friend, I'm in pretty good shape! Hopefully, I will get therapy orders this week and start my physio. I cannot straighten my right arm and I suppose that will just lengthen the therapy. You can better be good at it because right now I can't pick up a bloody pencil! No complaints, serious complaints, just complaining! I'm pain-free and sleep is challenging. Hopefully, after I see the surgeon this week I can sleep in my bed with my real honest-to-God pillow!
๐๐ค๐๐ผ I was always the lucky one who slept through the night and would not be awakened by a thunderstorm. I'm lucky if I get 90 minutes at a time.๐
I hope you have a wonderful sleep when you finally are allowed to sleep in your bed with your comforting pillow. Coming soon! I hope you don't mind my asking: Did you have your surgery in Indiana?
Well anything for attention!! Seriously all the very best for your recovery. As usual you do approach these trials with common sense and humour. Take care. ๐
You are a wonderfully strong lady. You have endured! Shoulder surgery is not that common. Thankfully, the worst part is behind you (I think) because here you are! Here's hoping we hear lots more from you because you have come through a very challenging surgery.
Thank you for your encouragement! I will say I have had 17 surgeries in my nearly 83 years and this shoulder surgery hurt like the devil for the few days following the procedure. To the best of my memory I was off pain medication within 10 to 12 days. I still take an occasional Tylenol but I am progressing.. Little by little but it counts for a lot. I'm in hopes of getting this sling off this Wednesday and starting physical therapy! Up and away!๐
I can well imagine how you are looking forward to losing the sling. If I recall, the sling had to stay on for 6 weeks. (I've googled shoulder replacement.) I wish you the best of luck as you endure physical therapy. Up and away, yes.๐๐
You are correct! It is 6 weeks and it has a bit of a cage that wraps around your waist to keep your arm at a 90ยฐ angle with your upper arm close to your rib cage. I gingerly remove it to get dressed now and do welcome its security at this point. I'll find out this week just how much activity is in my near future. One thing I'm so anxious for is my bed, I am tired of my relationship with my recliner! I am thankful that I could have the shoulder replacement surgery. My primary care physician told me her 98-year-old grandmother broke her humerus and she was not a good surgical candidate so they had to just let the break heal. But there is always an upside--- this 98-year-old broke her arm while doing yoga!๐ง๐ผโโ๏ธ๐ง๐ผ
