I'm posting early so you can do what much of Europe does: at some time during the afternoon or evening we watch "Dinner for One", and this year there is extra news about the cult that follows Freddie Frinton (native of Grimsby) which reached UK media notice.
I first saw it 40 years ago - I lay on the floor holding my stomach so I could laugh (I'd had a second c-section just over a week before). Every time I watch it I see something new!
A Happy New Year to you too, Pmrpro and enjoy your entertainment. Following your sound recommendation I have watched and enjoyed, too, although not every year!!
Happy New Year! To all of you wonderful people; may you have something to really make you laugh - like Dinner for One . We will drink to all of you.....
Timeless and priceless! Thank you for this and for keeping us sane through the years with your wisdom and encouragement. Happy, healthy New Year to you and the whole PMRGCAuk family.
Happy New Year to you and everyone here. I got the Dinner for One video but unfortunately it was in German, and there was a message that it could not be translated. I'll look out for it elsewhere.
The introduction is in German - the actual performance is in English. Stick with it through the first couple of minutes. That is the whole point - there are versions that have been dubbed or refilmed in various versions of German, they are just WRONG! They are mentioned in the article from the Guardian.
Thanks for this, hilarious. My husband lived in Germany in the 1980’s so he’s delighted to see this again. Happy New Year, and thanks so much for helping me survive 2022 with all your advice & counsel.
Was he military? That's when we were in Germany, July 1981 to summer 1990, marked by the Charles and Diana wedding and the wall coming down. We weren't military, British academics living in the US military sector!
No he went to work there after he was made redundant in the UK in late 1970’s. An English friend who ran an antique business gave him a job. They sold antiques to the US military stationed at the many US bases at what were called “bazaars”, the US soldiers hardly left their bases so business was good. I used to visit him in Heidelburg and after a few years he came back to UK and got a “proper” job, and we’ve now been married 40 years. We used to visit Germany a lot but what with Covid and now my PMR haven’t been for few years.
We were in Erlangen, near Nuremburg. Had friends from Heidelberg - lovely place but we only went once I think. Same here - haven't been anywhere since Covid!!!!
Happy New Year to you too! Thank you for your unswerving support for everyone on this forum, including me. I so appreciate your extensive knowledge and integrity.
Happy New Year PMRPro. Thank you for being our rock! Thanks also for dinner for one which I have now seen half a dozen times I guess. Sending love and all good things in 2023. Let’s get well. 👍🏻
Love it! Lived in Stockholm for 15 years and Swedish TV always showed Donald Duck at Christmas! Couldn't see the point at first but grew to love the tradition! A constant in a world of change! Happy 2023 to you - down to 3.5 now and counting..... xx🥂
I don't know about Sweden - but there is a lot of German/Austrian TV that is exactly the same as it was when my children were small!!! And Christmas/NY is particularly so
happy new year to all of you I hope 2023 Is a better year for all. I spent New Year’s Eve in the hospital with Covid. One step forward and two steps back. We should all do better this year. Fondly Marilyn
Oh yes, I'd forgotten this little gem, going to laugh my way into a better 2023 and wishing you the same. With much gratitude for all you do, through thick and thin. Chin chin, make it a gin 💐
