Has anyone tried a turmeric supplement. If so did it help and is it recommended to use it. Are there any contraindications?

Thanks for any help

I didn't really notice any relief, tummy upset though. I might give it a try but not use everyday. Next move is cbd and more pt. Good Luck!

Hello. This comes up every so often. If you type in turmeric in the top right search box you’ll get some posts. Here’s one to get you started

Whenever you are going to try something whether OTC or Homeo, check with your Pharmacist and follow the link SnazzyD has posted and then look at PMRpro reply.

I bought some roots the other day from Honeysuckle and boiled them up to make a tea, in the same way I'd been shown when I was in Asia. It's in the fridge now.

My friend kept a bottle of the cold tea her fridge - I'd just have a glass from time to time. My friend took turmeric tea every day for inflammation, but she doesn't have PMR.

Then I got a bit worried because it seemed to be increasing the effect of the Pred. So I'm not confident about taking it. Although, that might be a good thing.

I read recently that if you're told not to take grapefruit you shouldn't take CBD, and wonder if it's the same for turmeric.

As others have already stated taking turmeric should only be done after discussing tour meds with a pharmacist or gp as there a lot of herbs/spices that are contraindicated whilst using pred and other meds. If your pharmacist is ok with this i hope it helps you with your symptoms.YBB

If you look at the right side bar now on your post page you will see a list at the top with the title " Related Posts" , all of those previous posts with turmeric in the title will give you lots of answers of people's experience with Turmeric , just in case those people aren't available to answer now.

As YB said , make sure you can take it with any other health conditions of medications you take first.

Use pure Turmeric capsules , no black pepper ( as this can cause stomach irritation) , taper up the dose starting at one capsule as sometimes high doses can cause loose bowels as it assists with IBS as well as other types of inflammation.

There was a research project on it and they found that it was better to take powdered or fresh turmeric than the capsules.

It does depend on which capsule you buy , the good varieties from health food providers are made from the powders on site that have been checked for high curcumin content.

The person who ran the research was Dr Michael Mosley of the 5 2 diet. I am sure he would have checked the quality of the tablets he was using.

Yes , there is a lot of differences in the variety and quality of what can be purchased and many mass produced varieties do not have a guaranteed content . The capsules I purchase are made with fresh , high quality turmeric powder to order , but many shop bought varieties are tested to guarantee quality and many people find that this is a more convenient way to take this spice on a daily basis .

If people want to take tablets that is up to them. I am just saying the research showed it was better to include turmeric in your food rather than tablets.

I have made up a Ginger & Turmeric tea for years as I have arthritis & PMR. It's hard to say if it helps or not but I think it does. I use powdered turmeric (make up into Golden Paste - recipe available on the internet) & grated fresh ginger, lemon juice, honey & cider vinegar - sip throughout the day..........

I got lazy & stopped over this last, Australian, winter. I also stopped going to the pool for my gentle exercise sessions. By Spring I had lost strength in my hips & could hardly walk.

I have gone back to the pool, seen an exercise physio who gave me hip strengthening exercises to do & restarted the tea.

I am a lot better but who knows what it was down to?

Both my GP and physio have recently recommended Turmeric for inflammation so have decided to give it a try. Bought onlineTurmeric with Black pepper 600 mg to be taken twice a day. Started with one capsule for a week before going on to two. They were on 'special offer' at H & B when I bought them recently. I remain to be convinced but willing to try...... (remembering to take them along with everything else is the difficult bit !! )

It's probably OK with pred - but it shouldn't be used with several other drugs. Are you on other medication?
