Hello
Has anyone tried Turmeric Shots to help with your joints ? Did you see an improvement ?
Thank you .
Some people have taken turmeric supplements. By shots do you mean this current fad of taking so-called wellness products in small shot glasses? I'm sure it sounds very nice but rather a faff.
And a warning - a couple of people used commercial probiotic shots recently and ended up with very upset stomachs!
I tried turmeric to help with my PMR, I don’t have trouble with joints and it didn’t do anything
HiBet121. I don't take turmeric as a supplement but add a little to rice and curry, and similar spiced dishes. Not too much though as it can cause upset stomach. Not sure of benefits to joints, but I know many sing its praises.
I believe two of the 132 medications (from Google, not from a Dr) which react if taken with turmeric are omeprazole and lansoprazole. I take lansoprazole so not advisable to take turmeric. Suggest checking for interactions with other drugs if you want to try it. I have osteoarthritis & hypermobility & would love to get more help with my joints!
Not sure it is a reaction with the drug as such but the fact that turmeric often increases stomach acid makes it a daft idea if you are already taking those sort of medications to reduce stomach acid ...
I’m not sure. Yes, to degree, but it also said you can’t take it with all those others…mainly the “…etidine “ family of drugs, of which there are a lot! I’m not sure people look it up when they try something like this…think it must be fine as it’s in recipes! Yes, but those recipes make my hubby’s diverticular diseases very bad!! S xx
I am on Lansoprazole and use turmeric in my cooking but have been ok.
In what way do the react .
As I said above, turmeric increases the production of stomach acid. Which makes it seem a bit silly to take alongside the medication that is to stop the production of stomach acid.

"these antacid medications are meant to work oppositely to turmeric's effect. Taking turmeric supplements could diminish the effectiveness of these medications in managing acid reflux or ulcers, and could cause discomfort."
It also shouldn't be taken alongside blood thinners as it could increase bruising and it is possible that that would also apply with pred.
Thank you for this information.
I only use it in cooking with black pepper, but will stop as I have enough bruising and it makes me wonder now if it contributed to my bruising.
👍
I only use turmeric in my cooking and I haven’t noticed any noticeable differences but I’ve read it’s best to add black pepper too as it’s improves the absorption of curcumin, the active ingredient in turmeric.
a few years ago my daughter bought me some turmeric, I have loss of mobility in my ankles, due to surgery, I have found it really helpful, I can walk further and don’t limp. I take 100mg a day, I’m not aware of any side effects. (My PMR is in remission so I’m not taking steroids)
my daughters orthopaedic surgeon told her turmeric was as good as ibuprofen for arthritic pain. I have turmeric tea bags which taste good but not aware of any benefits.
A moot point I suspect - it is as effective as 1200mg/day ibuprofen for some pain
"Turmeric was found to be more effective than Ibuprofen for post surgical pain and swelling and delayed muscle soreness,"
"Curcumin has anti-inflammatory properties, making it a potential treatment for a number of health conditions, including reduced pain and increased ease of movement in people with osteoarthritis. One study found that taking turmeric extract three times daily was comparable to taking a 1,200-milligram dose of ibuprofen daily. However, more research is necessary to confirm these effects."

However - 1200mg ibuprofen isn't a particularly high dose and both turmeric and ibuprofen used long term or at higher doses are not advisable because of potential gastric effects.
I found taking turmeric capsules increased acid so sadly stopped.
