after haveing night shoulder pain with pmr for a long time. and reading about tumeric
i thought i may aswell try it, and blow me down 5 days later no shoulder pain whatsoever. i sleep right through. apart from getting for a wee. SO is it a coincidence or not, can someone else give it a go just to see what happens to them????

I’m not a great believer in coincidences, if you start a drug and something happens (good or bad) why would it not be the drug?
I am a believer in the placebo effect! It’s more powerful than people give it credit for, and is poorly understood. But if it works... don’t knock it!
I can’t oblige with a trial myself, as am doing a similar thing with Omega 3. And the turmeric effect may not work on someone else. If you’re brave enough, stop taking the turmeric, then restart if the pain comes back.
Soraya, I agree with what you say about the placebo effect. People knock it as: 'ah, it's just the placebo effect', but I say, even if it is "just the placebo effect", then what's wrong with that?
If it achieves the desired aim of eliminating pain, then who cares what you call it?
It just shows how Powerful our brain is in controlling both our emotional and physical well being.
If it works, doesn’t matter how I’d say. I can’t help because Turmeric supplements have unpleasant effects of the bathroom variety. I too am trying Omega 3 but having to to find a low enough dose that doesn’t make me feel queasy like Vit D has started to. I’ve got some 450mg.
I would love to help out but have tried turmeric and it brought me out in a red and itchy rash. I really wanted to take it as it has anti inflammatory properties. As Soraya suggests, perhaps stop it for a while and if the pain returns restart. All the best 🌻
I did advise on the Turmeric post though that although that is the recommended dose , you should start at one a day at first as it can have an effect on your bowels then increase to two if it works for you.
Supplements , even herbals , like all drugs can take time to get used to or have some side effects so building up the dose prevents adverse effects. And means that if you find you really cant tolerate it , the side effects aren't so severe .
I use it and did before PMR/ GCA and have always found it useful in relaxing my IBS and reducing gastric inflammation and certain levels of joint pain.
We have had alot of chats , especially recently about turmeric supplements and how to use them , and also when some people can't ( because of drug changes etc.) that you might want to search for and find interesting and useful to read.
i must have missed the infoe before, as i was holding back hopeing my last pred redution was working. so i could put a succsesful report in, but it didnt work, so thats why i am trying turmuric.
Turmeric wouldn't be a replacement for Pred , it may have had some positive effect on my joint stiffness and pain with other issues, but I was on it prior to GCA/PMR and I can say that it did not make any difference to that sort of joint pain inflammation.
It might help when you are finally at Ground Zero , especially for muscle pain from exercise as you begin to build up in recovery.
