Turmeric
Hello. This comes up fairly regularly. Here is the page of past posts I got by searching Turmeric in the box on the top right. There are also related posts to the right of the page. Happy reading!
I know a few who use it in cooking and feel it helps. If you look at the Related Posts you will see there are lots of other threads where you find plenty of info.
It depends what other medication you are on too - you must check for interactions if you consider the supplement route although many people find they get gastric upsets with them.
Hello, ive been taking a supplement which has curcumin (turmeric), vit D3 and frankinsense in one tablet - been taking it about 3 months and I really think it is helping- I was diagnosed with PMR in Oct 18, am tapering slowly, now on 5mg. I am 62, work 3 days a week, and walk every day, going at least 8 miles on some non working days, maybe 3 or 4 miles on others. I have loads of energy, and feel well. I have a small amount of stiffness in shoulders first thing, but I take my Pred, and once I am moving about I am fine! May have nothing to do with the supplement, but it seems to suit me. Best wishes to you!
turmeric coffee was a big fad a few years ago - familylifegoals.com/superch... lots more recipes on Google (other search engines are available)
I suffer from aches and pains which are more related to Adrenal Insufficiency than a flare. I tried Turmeric because it is said to be anti inflammatory, and don't think it made a lot of difference. For the first week or so, Turmeric caused nausea and a touch of bowel frequency. For me this just complicated things too much because I was taking 2.5mg of Pred and Adrenal Insufficiency can cause these problems too. It's bad enough that flare symptoms and steroid withdrawal / Adrenal Insufficiency and Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness are so difficult to distinguish from each other in my case, I stopped the Turmeric. Too many variables!
I think that those who derive benefit have generalised Arthritis of joints rather than PMR.
Had a phone consultation with rheumatologist the other day and he recommended turmeric for PMR and osteoarthritis. I already use it in cooking as well as ginger which helps.
Hi, I took a very high quality Turmeric capsule for about a year and saw/felt no difference. I had two flares during that time and had to increase my Pred. Not sure it did anything.
Thanks for the reply I think on balance will
leave out as already am taking aloe Vera juice which def helps!
I had gastric problems when taking it.
I take it, along with Vit D, omega 3 and magnesium daily. I have no idea if it's doing me any good but I think , why not? I'm beginning to think that cutting things OUT that are inflammatory and doing a low-carb diet is more important than adding things that people claim are anti-inflammatory. For example, you read often that lemon is supposed to be anti-inflammatory, and tomatoes are a super-food, but there are also many people including me for whom those things increase inflammation.
That’s v interesting I eat sooo many tomatoes maybe I should try to cut down a bit
As tc says, they are nightshade vegetables and nightshades veg are said to be proinflammatory. I did try omitting them all from my diet - I eat a lot, especially tomatoes using cherry or datterino tomatoes as a nibble ! The PMR didn't seem to improve - just my diet was much poorer!!
Don't stop because of what I said, they might be fine for most people but not for me. I have to avoid the nightshades, potatoes, peppers, tomatoes being the main ones. They are a key part of the mediterranian diet and may well be good for others. If you're going to eat them go organic. I kept a detailed diary of food and symptoms and looked for patterns that made me feel worse.
