Bladder prolapse post partum

Hello, I’m 37 and 3 months post partum. Right after my labour I had toilet issues and my pelvic floor was non existent. I’ve been told I have a possible grade 2 bladder prolapse and I also have a need to pee if I walk a few mins down the road. It’s getting worse not better and really affecting my quality of life as I was so active before the baby. I’m seeing a nhs pelvic health physio and I’ve decided to go private for a urogynecologist consultation this week. I’m desperate to hear some success stories to keep positive. The thought of being incontinent at 37 is really getting me down.

Heya - this is not something I have experienced but I just wanted to reply as I can empathise to an extent - I was so worried post partum that I would never run again so I looked up loads of info - I only had a very mild prolapse plus had an episiotomy (which took ages to get better) and even then it took me a good 4-5 months to feel “normal” and didn’t run until about 5 months (slowly!) which was frustrating enough! (I’m now 1 year PP)

Instragram has many great accounts to follow - I would def recommend checking out Sophie Power @ultrasophie- she’s an Ultra runner and has a prolapse - also physios Claire Bourne (@clairebournephysio) and Emma Brockwell (@physiomumuk) who coauthored the national return to running guidance - if I’d lived near her I would definitely have gone to her!

Not sure if this works but a useful post on prolapse - basically saying it might be a long road but it’s NOT the end of exercise!

Sorry to not be more help but I do hope you can get the right support and gradually back to your pre- baby level of activity - I don’t think people realise how important it is! Sending lots of love!

Thanks so much for the reply and such great tips. I have found Instagram to be useful in this area and I’ll check out those accounts you mentioned! Others have mentioned my need to be more patient with my healing which is right …. I just want to make use of that time to enable me to heal the best way possible so 🤞🏼🤞🏼.

Hi there, I have bought a kegal 8 trainer and I highly recommended it. I have similar issues and have been using the trainer for 4 weeks and have noticed a difference. 😊 x

Thanks. Have you been seeing a woman’s health physio? Not sure if I should add these to exercises but I’ll ask!

Yes definitely give yourself time but that is much easier said than done isn’t it! It’s so frustrating to not feel like yourself, especially when you have been so active previously. 3 months is still very early and as they say, it takes 9 months to grow a baby so takes at least 9 months for your body to recover - it’s just done a crazily amazing thing! (Congratulations by the way!) Xxx

Ok will do. I’m back to work in about 10 weeks so I’m beginning to feel the pressure to get fixed. But things will improve by then if not fixed I’m sure of it.
