I have been suffering from incontinence back pain, weak legs, very painful to have sex for years at least 12 if not more. I was always very fit. I have two sons who I played squash with swam 100 lengths of our local pool every morning before going to work in my full time job where I lifted heavy tray and was on my feet all day. I’d go home and if I wasn’t down the gym or playing squash with my son. I be in my garden which I loved. It seamed suddenly I was struggling to get out of the pool my legs were so weak. My lower back very painful. I went to doctors who sent me for back mri scan which showed nothing but a little wear and tier. I felt that people thought and still think I’m not for real as one day I’m walking like a woman of 96 then the next Im pain free which isn’t often now and I’m very careful not to do to much because I know I’ll suffer for it. . Then a few month ago I found that when I went to open my bowels I felt as if it was try to come out of my vagina. So I plucked up courage and went to see my doctor again. who said I had a prolapse and has referred me to gynaecology which I’m waiting for. After reading about a prolapse on Google I was so shocked that I have been treated for all my problems separately. Hormone treatment for my painful time having sex with my poor husband who been so patient and caring. Tables because I wee myself every day. Painkiller for my painful back. I feel so upset because I believe I’ve had this prolapse for years and no doctor made the connection and treated all my problem separate. Dew to my problems I went part time and light duty’s at work I was 45 then had to finished work at 52yrs I couldnt walk in the mornings even after good nights sleep. I stop the gym I still swim a little but struggle getting out of pool. I feel so depressed I often feel very down and doom and gloom. On one American sight I read that leg weakness is all part of the prolapse so I wondered is there anyone out there that can’t relate to my experience. Is there anyone who can tell me there is light at the end of my tunnel. I’m I ever going to be able to run around with my grand children. Spend the day doing gardening with out having to spend the next 3 days resting. 😢and feeling sorry for myself.

hi your story sounds very similar to mine. Long story short I was fitted with a pessary which has helped no end. Your gp can fit you with one of these so you don’t have to put up with your condition whilst waiting to see gynae. Good luck 🤞🏻
Hi there I'm so sorry its horrid isn't it...are u menopausal as to me sounds like all the symptoms as u loose estrogen and that contributes to pelvic floor weakness...I would ask to go on hrt straight away and also buy a kegal 8 pelvic floor exerciser ..I managed a prolapse for 10 yrs woth hrt a kegal 8 and vit d and collegan ..had to secure to a operation 2 yrs ago as had to come off hrt I'm 63...honest that was a life saver for me but I know we all have our concerns re that but to me using everel conti patches were a lifesaver..I know u are in the u.s so not as easy as uk..but pls speak to your gynie...lots of luck...also after the op I'm like a new woman so well worth the money and 3 months of taking it easy....jeanette x

hi, can you tell me which operation you had? I have been offered one of 3 ops and told to choose, I don’t know which is best but really scared even though I know I should have it done x
I see you're in the UK, like me. First, empathy. Second, don't give up. I don't think there is any magical fix but there are better (and worse) ways to manage the condition.
If you can, join the FaceBook group FPOPS UK (Female Pelvic Organ Prolapse Support, UK). It is enormously helpful, and includes some printed resources.
I have found natural sponges (rather than prescribed pessary, which I also tried) comfortable and helpful and relatively inexpensive, and the NHS App Squeezy also really useful for doing the exercises regularly (I scoffed at it at first but it has really helped).
But it's also wonderful knowing, both here and in the FB group, that you're not alone. Take your time reading all about the different things people try, so you can work out what might be right for you, both now and in the future. Each body is different, but all the symptoms you describe will be familiar to people here. 😘
thank u for taking the time to read and reply everyone. Just wondering if there’s a clinic in west or south wales I can go to for information on peasants and sponges my doctor hasn’t told me nothing on referred me. Phone my hospital and they have told me that I’ll only have to wait 4/6 weeks to be seen. Just would be nice to chat with someone in the know on things that can help.
You mean pessaries, I think, rather than peasants. It's the autocorrect! I am in Scotland, not Wales, so can't help re. local clinics, but suggest you try the FPOPS FaceBook group, where there may be someone in the same area as you. Generally the medics don't counsel on sponges, but people here do. They are a natural alternative to the medical inserts, and some women also use them for menstruation. So trawl the information online here and in the FaceBook group. You don't have to wait to see a doctor to try them, and they are only a possible part of what you will need, I suspect. puresponges.co.uk/prolapse-...

Check out wholewoman.com - a non-surgery approach which helps women live very well with prolapse, even severe. The approach works on breath and posture, helping organs move into their natural position, helping hip and joint problems too. Might be just what you are looking for. I hope you find healing and strength.
