At 79 years of age I began experiencing acute urinary retention which required three trips to hospital emergency room. During that year a Foley catheter was inserted at three times during the year. It was determined by my doctor that the best option for me (now being 80 years old and diabetic) wast to surgically implant a suprapubic catheter.
I can manage this to expel urine from my
bladder. I have had severe pain from my rectum area. Went to a proctologist he determined that I did not have interinal hemorrhoids but in fact was suffering from a
pelvic organ prolapse. Have an appointment with specialist in POP conditions.
With a SPC surgically implanted what can be done for my severe rectal pain? What type of quality life can I expect for my future?

Dear Potsymolly, I have no answers, or the same condition. But I am convinced something can be done to improve this situation, and especially the pain. Basically you need to see that specialist as soon as possible and stay optimistic but clear in your expectations. That kind of pain can be horrendous, I know. And can be relieved, especially now perhaps some joined up thinking is in order, since the conditions are probably connected. The issue is how to manage an aging body effectively (I inhabit one too). Stay strong. Sending much empathy.
