hi can anyone help with this, I have been experiencing pain in my bottom now for nearly 2 years, I have seen the doctor about this numerous times, it is really difficult to say where exactly the pain is in my bum but the GP sent me to see a specialist in coccyx pain. After being seen by the specialist they asked if any soft tissue investigation had been done which I replied no, I was referred back to my Gp who has now examined my vagina and back passage , I was told I have a slight prolapse at the top of my vagina and also a bulge at the top of my bowel. I now need to be sent for a pelvic scan to investigate more. I am in constant pain while sitting and find it difficult to get comfortable when laying down. I feel very depressed as I don’t know what is wrong with me, the specialist said that I could be suffering with coccyxdynia but the treatment for this is limited so insisted I have the soft tissue investigation first, now I just don’t know if this prolapse and bulge in the bowel is causing all this pain. As anyone else experienced this?

I have the same but advised no prolapse, but pudental nerve damage. It's an intense throbbing?

Thank you for your reply, the pain is constant when sitting, I can’t sit straight on my bottom I have to sit slightly to the side, some days the pain is worse than others. When it’s really bad I can feel a throbbing and tingling don my legs.

I can relate. Sitting with one leg under bum helps. Sometimes worse after emptying bowel. It's really unpleasant. I hope the investigations reap results and treatment xx

So glad you posted this....I'm exactly in same position as you, plus sciatica & osteoarthritis. I'm having epidural into my spine in 2 weeks to help the sciatica. I've also got a very sore coccyx - I'm visiting chiropractor next week to see if they can help. I've had 2 nerve blocks as initially thought it was Pundendal Neuralgia..but they had effect whatsoever. Ill let you know if I resolve my rectal pain...its bloody painful and very very uncomfortable, I need to get sorted ASAP as I go on 10 hour flight to Mexico for my honeymoon in 6 weeks! 😉

I have been there, not able to sit for more than 10 mins. Laying down helped me, of course still had pain, but less. Hurting sitting down is a big symptom of pudendal neuralgia. I used to take a pillow with me everywhere I went. Like someone else commented I'd sit on my leg, kind of lay on my back with feet up on back of couch. I have been diagnosed with pudendal neuralgia, obturator neuralgia, and coccyxdynia. Started with pudendal neuralgia and obturator neuralgia from transvaginal mesh complications. But there are other things that can cause this. If a coccyxdynia pillow doesn't help (donut shaped with opening in the back to keep pressure off spine), then that isn't likely the culprit. It is frustrating going to doctor after doctor. I have been to 6 different states and 3,000 miles away from home to get help. I did have the interstim. It worked great for 2 years, but then fizzled out. In the last 5-10 years they have come out with pulsed radiofrequency ablation. This has been a game changer for me. I went from 5-10 pain average to 0-5 pain. I was pain free for 3 months following the first treatment. I think this new pain is from a lot more activity, being out of shape and the scar tissue from all the mesh removal surgeries.

Where exactly is your worst pain. Pelvic floor pain is hard to diagnose because it refers to other areas. Try to see if you can isolate the different pains. Focus on the areas that hurt.

I sure hope you find the help you need. This is just miserable!

I’m having a pelvic pain for 13 months. I visited so many doctors, most of them had no idea what is going on with me, often feeling abandoned. I was in so much pain, lost 12 pounds in 2 months, literally lost hope that my life will be normal again. Finally 7 months ago I was diagnosed with pelvic floor dysfunction due to muscle spasm. My symptoms are rectal pain, sitting pain, issues with bladder. The life changed after I read the book written by Dr Wise and Dr Anderson “A headache in the pelvis”. This book is a “bible” for patients who suffers from pelvic floor muscle dysfunction.

I contacted Dr Wise and went to his clinic for 3 days 5 months ago. I was taught his method called Wise-Anderson protocol and for the last 5 months I’m following this protocol at home in addition to PT sessions. Even I’m in the beginning of the journey to get to the symptoms free phase, I already feel better. My pain is not so intense and my symptoms are improving. The rectal pain is almost gone. The sitting pain is still there but less intense. I highly recommend to read this book, it helped so many people.

Hi , I had 9 weeks of this. Pain was excruciating in the rectal area and I could not sit down. Specialist did not believe me after rectal examination at the hospital. An on call GP finally asked my own GP to refer me for a Colonoscopy which found I had a large diverticular pouch that was blocked and infected near the rectum. It just took a course of Co-Amoxiclav and I got wonderful relief.

I also suffer from a rectocele which is the bowel prolapsing into the vagina. When constipated it aggravates the rectal pain again.

I am totally pain free now except if I get constipated 👍
