Prolapse journey!

Hi there,

I was diagnosed with stage 3 cysticele, and stage 2 uterine and rectocile 2 years ago after noticing a significant protrusion when running after my grandson.

I had a shelf gelhorn pessary fitted by specialist, the only one that would support effectively. That was reasonably ok for 15 months but it was very uncomfortable for specialist to change (4-6 monthly) and sex not possible. Also noticed a smelly discharge and occasional utis. Now trying to manage without anything apart from oestrogen-based pessaries (inserted) Next step is to consider surgery (already been advised) but with covid pandemic, huge waiting lists.

Currently just trying to manage symptoms with health supplements, Pilates, yoga and up to 2 hour walks (short for me as used to hike all day) and of course, lose extra 1/2 stone put on in last year! AVOID HEAVY LIFTING (I keep forgetting to my cost).

I would be interested in other helpful suggestions as difficult to stay positive continuously. Thank you.

Hi its hard to stay posative when you dont know the future and covid-19 is making it feel like you have been abandoned. There are so many of us in the same situation you are not alone. I have shortened my walks to an hour each time and I do the doggy crawl as soon as I get home (crawl around the floor for a few minutes then lay down for 10 mins) it is helping me a lot. I am frustrated with the not knowing what is to come and no sex. Lol I wish you all the best and I hope this helps.

Pelvic floor exercises 3 times a day are the only thing apart from surgery that will help with a rectocele I’ve been told. After 8 months I’m seeing some improvement! Reduce intake of white rice, white bread and anything made with white flour as they can get stuck in the rectocele and make the problem worse. Hope that helps

I have a stage 3 uterine and stage 2 cysticele and rectocile . My consultant has said that a gellhorn pessary would work best for me at the moment. But I’m uneasy about it as these can only be removed at a clinic and I would feel out of control. The only thing that really helps me is to rest on my back with my legs in the air for about 10 minutes after I have been for my daily walk or have stood a long time. I think surgery is the only answer for me and will discuss it again at my next appointment even though I may have to wait years !
