Can anybody tell me what a rectal prolapse feels like please?

Hi,

I realise women have a lot more that can go wrong in the pelvic region than men and understand that rectal prolapse is mainly something that affects women and is due to child birth but apparently men can still have rectal prolapse. A couple of things I would like to ask someone who's had it are: what does it feel like and would you know it was a prolapse if you had it? Sorry if you think these are strange questions but I'm trying to rule things out so that I can find some answers to my own problems. My rectum doesn't feel right when I go to the toilet. It almost feels like something is out of place. Maybe it's a muscle or nerve problem? It's hard to explain but I'm curious to know how it feels. Many thanks.

My brother in law had a rectal prolapse and it was literally all out ! He had to go to A&E and was admitted, hopefully yours isn't that bad but best to get checked out.

Blimey. Sounds awful. I hope he's ok now?

Yes he's ok but there will always be the potential for it to happen again.

Rectocele (prolapsed rectum) can cause difficulties completing a bowel movement. Do you have this problem?

Yes I've been having this problem along with constipation just recently.

It sounds like you could have a prolapse. Until you get a diagnosis you might like to try pelvic floor exercises but it’s not a quick fix unfortunately. Avoid white bread, anything made with white flour and rice as these will aggregate the problem. Drink plenty of water and eat plenty of veggies. Avoid heavy lifting, rowing machines, jumping & crunches.
