Hello all! I've been suffering with severe lower abdominal/pelvic pain for over 2 years now. The pain is very severe and comes on suddenly. I would describe it as a sharp, stabbing pain that usually only lasts 5-10 seconds, and then it's over. The frequency changes, but it's currently roughly every 3 or 4 days, throughout the month. Occasionly the pain in my pelvic area is coupled with pain in the rectum or chest, but it's mostly focused in the lower left or right pelvic area (it moves from side to side). I have had blood tests and ultrasounds with no diagnosis. After my last ultrasound, the doctor said they suspect endometriosis. However, I'm not sure, as my symptoms don't seem aligned. Does anyone have an ideas of what it may be? The constant fear of a pain attack is getting me down, please help!

Severe pelvic pain for over 2 years, please help!
For definitive diagnosis of endometriosis you should ask your consultant for an
explorative laparoscopy, this is the best test to show any abnormalities.
Localised pelvic pain is harder to diagnose as it could be any number of things. You could try keeping a diary for a short time detailing food intake, menstruation cycle, exercise etc..
Took me five yrs to get diagnosed with colitis and levator-ani syndrome. We know when our bodies just aren't performing right so don't give up hope. Wishing you good health. Stay strong!!!
Thank you so much for your reply! I was due to have an explorative laparoscopy but it was cancelled due to covid, and they have no idea when it will be rescheduled I've been keeping a pain diary, but like you say, it makes sense to detail other elements like food etc. Thanks so much for the tip!
I'm so glad you've finally been diagnosed. The knowing 'something is definitely wrong', but not knowing 'what', is so frustrating and exhausting. Wishing you good health, and a pain-free road ahead!
I too have had pelvic pain for a number of years before I had a diagnostic laparoscopy at the beginning of the year. They found mild endo in various places and explained why I've had pelvic floor issues for years.
Endometriosis can manifest itself in a number of ways so it's not said that you would match all the 'traditonal' symptoms but it is most definitely something that should be checked out.
Thank you for your reply! And your reassuring words - in a strange way, it's comforting to know it could still be endometriosis, because at least it means one step closer to knowing what's wrong. I'm glad you've finally had a diagnosis, and I hope it's meant less pain for you.
Hopefully my diagnostic laparoscopy will be rescheduled soon. I'm really nervous about the procedure (they really went into detail about all the risks in my consultation), but it's reassuring to hear from people who have been through it and had success. Wishing you good health!
I was having issues since my late teens (I'm 25 now) and kept getting ignored by doctors or them telling me 'it's normal' 🙄.
Persistence is most definitely key when it comes to getting a diagnosis. For years I didn't get the right treatment and it meant the pain got progressively worse, hence why it's so important that it's treated at an early stage before it gets worse. Only this year have I fully understood why I have pelvic pain and what caused it (In my case, endo).
Hopefully things will be up and running for you soon. I was nervous before my surgery too and did myself no favours by watching laparoscopy videos (I don't advise this at all! 😂) and being so worried about all the horiible possibilities. Of course I worried for nothing and it all turned out for the best. No horrid complications at all and I don't have such awful pain anymore.
I still have a couple of issues, but I will be visiting a pain clinic in September after my follow up.
Awhh thank you and I hope things work out for you and you find answers soon 🤞💕
Oh wow, that's such a long time to be suffering pain without knowing why! It's so frustrating being told 'its probably nothing' or 'see how you get on' 😖 So pleased you finally have a diagnosis and are able to manage the pain. Hope your appointment at pain clinic goes well!
*note to self... No laparoscopy videos...* 😂 😂
Aw thank you! And thank you for sharing your experience of your op -makes me feel so much better hearing your successes story 💗
