May anyone who has had abdominal adhesions or pelvic adhesions tell me what it was like? And what you did to resolve them?
At first I thought I had pelvic floor dysfunction, but my PT doesn’t think i do. So I am looking for other consequences of Pelvic inflammatory disease, and found a lot of articles stating that adhesions are very common in untreated cases- which mine was very untreated for months.
So Anybody who can tell me what their symptoms were like with pelvic/abdominal/bowel adhesions would be helping me out a lot.
Thank you so much.

I had my hysterectomy 18 months ago. I live in excruciating pain. I have abdominal spasms and contractions like if i were pregnant. I cramp so bad as if my period never ends. I take pain meds, muscle relaxers. They just take the edge off so i can get out of bed. I was told i had pelvic floor too but i went to see a colorectal specialist who examined my pelvic floor througg my rectum and i dont have pfd either. I had nerves decompression surgery a year ago which helped cuz i had tingling and burning but thats gone. I get a terrible shooting pain on my left side in groin area. I thought was colon colonoscopy shows normal but the spasms are constant and go from my left groin area all the way up my abdomen under my breasts. I too am lost they told me adhesion too but i knnew when i woke up something went wrong in my surgery. Everything changed in an hour. I have 18 months trying to get out of pain. To answer our questions i have spasms and contantractionu and cramping.
See I don’t have pain per say, I have sensations of things being stuck together inside my pelvic area. It’s like a tugging feeling between my pelvis and my rectum, which causes major discomfort. But not pain.
Hi I had adhesions at a very young age...13years old. Such pain I remember well! I had operations, anti inflammatory medication, anti spasmodic tablets. More surgery and a total hysterectomy aged 21years old. All I can do is wish you well. 😘 xxx
I had a diagnostic laparoscopy last year following years of pelvic pain, and I had an IUD became stuck in my cervix and caused PID. They found adhesions and removed them which resolved some of my symptoms.
But a few weeks post surgery I started getting stabbing pains in my pelvic area and in some areas of my abdomen.
Surgery causes adhesions so I know it’s likely they’ve come back in some form.
I sometimes feel a tugging sort of sensation around my belly button as well(where they made an incision) - I also have IBS, so I use a combination of medication and diet to manage symptoms.
Some yoga as well can help, and I’m looking into abdominal massage.
I hope you’re ok... might be worth speaking to a gynae, mine was very helpful and gave me a lot of info.
Have you had any surgical procedures that would be a cause for your adhesions?
After 13 ops I have Bowel, bladder, Abdominal and pelvic adhesions these do not show up on any scans they are diagnosed with a laproscopy procedure.
I have limited Abdominal movements as I am "fused" internally, it's like a tearing stretching kind of pain if I bend over or reach out for something.
I have severe Bowel dysfunction needing daily trans-anal irrigation and manual extraction. My pubirectalis muscles also lock causing pain and spasms in pelvic area further compromising Bowel function.
Also diagnosed with levator-ani syndrome which also affects muscles that control Bowel and bladder.
Treatment is various anti spasmodic meds, and pain killers. I see my specialist physio for vaginal internal /external trigger point manipulation, Visceral Abdominal massage and gynea for botox injections into pelvic floor. Also bladder injections for incontinence. Combination of treatments helps with easing spasms and pain but does not eradicate symptoms.
I did have several surgeries to separate adhesions which in effect caused more internal scarring/adhesions meaning surgery was counterproductive.
I have really good support from my care team who consult with me on strategies to help manage my symptoms.
Have you had any input from consultants on possible causes for your symptoms?
No surgeries just the bad infection, but I talked to a gynaecologist in New Jersey and he said adhesions are common after a bad pelvic infection too. I am seeing my gynaecologist on Monday so I will be telling him my symptoms and see if he thinks adhesions could be the cause.
