Urinary pain/nerve pain, post-surgical. Any ideas for relief?

Hello all, I've really been grateful for this site, and will be asking lots of questions. I've been in 8 months of acute pain from surgery. They believe it is nerve (ilioinguinal, but blocks aren't really successful). My urologist thinks it is related to nerve damage near the bladder, not the bladder specifically. But every time I urinate it is painful. Has anyone had urinary pain since pelvic surgery and does anyone have any good remedies?

Hi Tara, so sorry to hear you are suffering with acute pain since surgery. Have you had an assessment done of your pelvic floor muscles? A Too tight pelvic floor can give you pain when you urinate.

My pelvic floor muscles are quite good.

I would go to a pelvic pain specialties my Uro/Gyn misdiagnosed me after surgery I had pain all over and was unable to take any of the many meds he prescribed it turned out that I have p/n and ingual nerve issues I don't know where you are but DR. Richard Marvel in Annapolis was who I saw....you'll have to check the internet I hope this is helpful

What did Dr. Marvel have you do? He just diagnosed you and then did he prescribe anything? What did your UroGyn say you had first?

Thank you. My Urologist says that it is nerve damage & pain (from my surgery 8 months ago) that is causing my urinary pain (which is awful). So my urinary tract at least in her estimation is okay. But the pain is terrible every time I urinate. That's why I was wondering if anyone had any meds/suggestions. I will def read up on Marvel right now!

To be clear, I had a lap myomectomy 8 months ago and have been in acute, very focalized pain that has totally ruined my life: do not work, cannot walk properly, cannot urinate properly, etc.

Thx

I am so sorry to hear of your pain..my Uro/gyn who did the bladder and uterus lift surgery (which was successful) March of 2017 because I prolapsed all at once while I was dressing to stage 2.5 I think my nerve pain started back then but the surgery made the nerve pain much worse and I feel as if there is something inside me like a ball and I have burning...when I finally went to a new Uro /gyn in Pa. he referred me to Dr. Marvel and then I was properly diagnosed if you are in De DO NOT GO TO DR. HOWARD GOLDSTEIN...he is with Christian Uro/Gyn and you can't see another dr. in that practice once you start seeing one.....after my surgery I saw him 8 or more times and he kept sending me to other dr.'s then tried to tell me I had intercyctal cystis I had none of the things he said when I went to PA and saw the other Uro/gyn (the same type of dr. mind you) with the very first visit he knew what was wrong with me so please if anyone is in the state of DE do not go to Howard Goldstein I went thru hell for 1 and1/2 yrs following his directions..in any case dr. marvel gave me a full exam and listened to me and started me on a medication that I had a reaction to he also gave me a nerve block that when it wore off I was in such pain...I am not going to any Dr.'s for 1 yr. to give my body a break I am having much success with chiropractic care and acupressure...best of luck I hope you feel better soon
