Ultrasound results. How long?

Hi šŸ‘‹

Iā€™m new to the group and was wondering if anyone knows how long it takes for a Transvaginal Ultrasound result.

It has been two weeks today and I have not received any news from my gynaecologist who booked the scan for me. Am I being impatient?

The lady doing the scan could see what she thought looked like a 5cm cyst on my left ovary but I am yet to know for sure what it is. Getting a little anxious waiting.

Cysts on the ovary are perfectly normal so I wouldnā€™t worry about that bit; I have a 3cm one on my right ovary and itā€™s been there for ages they just check on it from time to time. Did they take biopsyā€™s or swabs of some kind? If not your results are as they were spoken on the day, swabs and biopsyā€™s can take a few weeks because they have to give things like bacteriaā€™s etc chance to grow before they can give you an accurate result. The longest Iā€™ve ever waited was 6 weeks and Iā€™ve heard as quickly as within a week it depends what their looking for. Try not to worry no news is good news for now and bad news is dealt with as it happens :) Iā€™ve received both from these scans but I was treated promptly and recovered well. Hard when itā€™s you going through it I know but Iā€™m sure everything is fine.

Thank you for replying Kazhc. I have been suffering for 8 years with pelvic pain and still yet to find out a diagnosis. Iā€™ve had a few ultrasounds and this one showed what they thought looked look a 5cm cyst which needs to be reviewed. All they did was an internal ultrasound, no biopsies or swabs taken. My gynaecologist took some swabs before the ultrasound appointment a month before but nothing came back from that so I guess all was fine with that.

I guess I just need to be patient and just wait. Thank you for making me feel a little less worried. Itā€™s been 3 weeks but like you say no news is good news it would just be nice to have confirmation that it was a cyst and what the next steps are.

I donā€™t think youā€™re being impatient at all. I always call the doctors office after 5 days and ask if the results are in. Often times itā€™s kust a simple thing that someone didnā€™t think to get in touch with you. And if your doctors office doesnā€™t have the results, then call the radiology dept and ask them whatā€™s going on.

Thank you Chica1943. I rang my GP today and they have not received anything yet so told me to ring the hospital which I did. Managed to get through but was 5pm by the time I did and was to late so they have asked me to ring back tomorrow and given me the number to ring to speak to the doctor who is dealing with my ultrasound results. Fingers crossed I will get confirmation that they have been looked at my scan pictures.

know that they are not allowed to give results over the phone though so may have to wait a bit longer.

I was fortunate in that the Dr who did mine was doing it as I was lying on the table right next to the machine. And I sat up later and he count point out to me what he saw. Of course I went into shock when he said. ā€œ well Ms Bourgeois. It seems that just about all your mesh is still in placeā€. Shocked because the Dr who did my so called removal told my daughter and me that he had removed all but one small piece. šŸ˜”

Itā€™s very frustrating sometimes and so unprofessional. Are you okay now?

The most bothersome thing now is the pudental nerve. I going to have a test to see if there is a pinhole opening in my bowel thats the cause of another fistula/sinus tract in pelvis. If that shows all is ok then another Dr wants me to try the stimwave that would ( if it world) help with peripheral pain.

That is so worrying.

Although I know that when the mesh has been in your body for some time it becomes embedded. If the doctor wasn't sure it had all been removed they should have said so. I had a partial removal and the surgeon told me how it was very embedded in the tissue and hard to remove, but to have almost all of it left is unacceptable without saying to you afterwards.

I have since found out that Iā€™m not the only person who has had this happen with him. I do not care to get into a legal battle with him but I did post it on the facebook mesh support groups. Sometimes other doctors donā€™t want you as a patient if they know you have sued another doctor.
