If it is cyclic then it may be linked to your hormones. Some people get cramp like pain just before a period and for the first day or so which then disappears. It would be wise to talk to a doctor preferably one with some gynae experience.

There are various other possible causes which might be linked to the hormones, such as ovarian cysts, endometriosis or maybe even interstitial cystitis. There is no way of telling without talking to a medical professional. I'd suggest you keep a diary of exactly when the pain occurs, what type of pain and where it is and talk tp a doctor. It helps them to understand and better diagnose why you get the pain. It may just be 'one of those things' linked to periods. All the best, hope you find some help and support.

Premenstrual pain is thought to be caused by prostaglandins produced by uterine cells. They are lipid based and stem from aracadonc acid. They cause inflammation and pain. Does your uterus swell?

Ponstan may help but I’d try fresh ginger tea, or curcumin pilos first. They ate natural anti inflammatories. Good luck.

As a method of birth control?

I had terrible premenstrual pain all my adult life. The coil made it worse...removed it after a month. It’s a foreign body. How can the uterus not be affected by it?

We are all different and react in different ways. If your doctor recommends it just ask what it is and why she thinks it will help and what might be possible side effects. That way your are in control of what may or may not be helpful.

hope you find something that helps.
