Had hysterectomy at 27, fine since, but now, 72, active, healthy but have developed cistocele. Pelvic floor prolapse. using pessary now, but trying to decide whether to have repair operation. Only heard negative reports on this . I have no pain . Can anyone advise ?
Cistocele advice.: Had hysterectomy at... - Pelvic Pain Suppo...
Cistocele advice.
I have a same also with a rectocele, after much deliberation I have decided to have the op.
I have had a pessary for 6 months now it's been has been ok. Last time I seen consultant he said you can stay with pessary for ever. It was that one word which made me decide.
Got my date for op today, 25th October.
You got to decide what's best for you
Best of luck
Could you give me more info on the pessary treatment - I decided against the mesh operation but my consultant did not mention anything about a pessary treatment.
Morning,
The surgeon is not using mesh. Totally understand your concerns . Has the surgeon explained what he will be doing during the op ?
The pessary is a round hollow piece of flexible plastic/ rubber. That is pushed into vagina and pushes back the prolapses. You can't feel it, it's been very effective.
It's worth asking about, they come in different sizes to fit you, some remain in place get changed every 6 months or like mine you can take it out, if you want to.
Hope that helps
Lynn
A pessary is a device your doctor inserts into your vagina. It holds everything in place once you get the right fit. Have had it almost a month and so far so good. No more prolapse. If you are sexually active you need to get one that allows for this, otherwise you nave to remove at such times. Your doctor or nurse should advice. I saw a Uro- gynaecologist.
Please please research whatever operation they offer you thoroughly. Especially "mesh" "tape" "polypropylene" "TVT" etc. I didn't and it has ruined my life
I too had an hysterectomy many years ago - I am now 75 - and I have ongoing problems with a bowel prolapse - the symptons are not nice but I too was offered a mesh repair but after doing much research on this have decided to LIVE (EXIST) with the problems - my main reason for this is that my consultant could not guarantee that it would solve the problem. Furthermore, at present I do not have any pain just unpleasant symptoms and so I know what I am dealing with whereas if I had the operation it could potentially offer many more problems. Good luck with whatever you decide.
Hi , I'm 70 and had My hysterectomy when I was 36 ( the answer to everything then !) followed a few years later by 2 more abdominal ops for cystic ovaries. My bowel and Bladder dropped over the years and gave me serious prolapses . 6 years ago I had a bowel pro. op.. a success and a week ago a bladder prolapse op. It feels great .. nothing hanging down and passing urine back to normal... just got to recover. Pleased I had it done so I would say ."go for it" ... good luck x
Very encouraging. Do you know what was used to repair your prolapse ? Be grateful if you kept me posted with your recovery.
It has been a week now since my bladder prolapse op and although I'm weary (more age than anything else) I have no pain at all and passing water has gone back to ' normal' .. just once during the night rather than about 5 times! Same for through the day .
No heavy dropping feeling . I've had a bloated abdominal and wind pains but that has improved too.
My surgeon definitely did not use mesh but attached the bladder to a muscle/ tendon deep in the abdomen. The incision was through the vagina.
When I had the bowel prolapse about 7 years ago I understand it was strapping like a sling that was put in to hold it, I can't be certain .. mesh was never mentioned and to be honest I've never asked. What you don't know you can't worry about! It has been great also since it was done.
I have had a lot of various surgery in the past due to being in a car smash...and tend to 'just go for it'.
I feel that if something can be put right then do it . Never dwell on what might go wrong.. it very rarely does .. so leave the pills creams etc behind and go forward. Xx
if you have no pain use the pessary and be prayerful about anything else at this time. I had surgery 17 months ago and have never been the same. Believing for God's manifestation of complete physical healing though.
Be encouraged
take care and God bless you
I had a hysterectomy at a private hospital, benenden in 2001 due to rectocele and cystocele prolapse. They were all to eager to operate but then if they hadn't, the surgeons wouldn't have had a job. Everything was fine and I felt great after the surgery. However in 2009 once again I had a rectocele and cystocele prolapse. Benenden said it's not uncommon for this to happen as more room for this to happen! Again I had surgery there but this time I woke up in absolute agony. I went back 4 times to benenden and they basically called me a liar and I was imagining I was in pain. I've had 3 children and a miscarriage. I know pain. It took 3 years for me to find out they'd damaged my pudendal nerve. Strange that if you sue it has to be within that time! Please try physio for a prolapse before surgery. I was told by a top gynaecologist that pudendal nerve damage is rare, but it is well documented and caused by clumsy surgery. So please, please exercise those prolapses back in place with physio girls. 💕
I'm just reading through all ur comments for some information, I'm 42 and have been diagnosed with a cystocele and rectocele prolapse they also suspect I've a uterine prolapse too but I'm in a lot of pain, I feel like there is a set of weights pulling on my womb and spine, even just doin a pee gives me pain, I've an overactive bladder and incontinence, at the minute I'm told at best I need a repair but more than likely a hysterectomy, my issue is like the original post says it's all horror stories I've read, atm I'm waiting on further tests but I'm at my wits end with the pain.
