I have rectal pain and had to pay a specialist physio to have this treatment. The problem with the NHS is that the minute they see 'pelvic pain' they thinks it is a gynae problem and try to get your pelvic muscles tightened up which can actually have an adverse effect if you have trigger points to ease.
I was recommended to purchase a wand which you can use yourself which can sometimes help but you do need to see a physio who specialises in myofascial trigger point release and she should be able to explain how it should be used.
I have had an op and mesh inserted in my rectum for an internal prolapse and rectocele which I think has failed. I have been to two specialists who have ruled out PE or PNE but my surgeon still goes on about it being a combination of everything so back to square one really! I am going to a specialist (I hope) pain clinic next month so will see what they can suggest to manage the pain without further surgery. I take Tramadol when it gets difficult to manage and so far find that quite effective on bad days. I limit myself to 2 - 4 a day when I need to use them and so far this keeps things manageable which seems about the best the medical profession can offer currently. Hope this helps
This began for me 3 years ago. I started myofacial therapy about 8 months after I started feeling the internal pain. I am 80 percent cured. I take gabapentin at night before bed and it helps me. I live the n New York. If you live in the states I can give you a referral.
Hi NY123, did your treatment get worse before it got better! As my Physio gave me a little treatment on Tuesday today I am in bed with chronic pelvic pain so not sure if I will have the treatment! Do you have the wand I have looked at them but confused not sure which one to purchase? thank you so much for your advice it really does help me Carol xx p.s. I live in England
It gets worse before better! Your muscles are very sore, keep with it. Please go for 2 months at least. It took me that long before I was leaving in less pain but it ended up clanging my life!
No I use a vibrator. My therapist doesn't like the wand. I use it to Just press the area until it releases.
Yes it got worse before better. You need to be aware of what the therapist is doing to you so you can properly use it. Ask questions like where are you. Are you in the right or left. Up or down because sometimes it feels like they are pressing in a certain spot and it actually is in the other side. I know it sounds crazy but it had happened to me.
Press the area. You have to work through the pain before it gets better. I have been going for 2 years and still go once a week for maintenance. She has saved my life and I tell her that every time I see her. I just attended her wedding because through all of this we became friends.
I hope you find some relief. It's awful to have chronic pain.
Thanks for your quick reply Michelle I will see how I get on what have I got to lose! Would you mind if I private message you as some of it is personal? xx
i to am having pelvic floor therapy with a specialist physio who is doing amongst other things, trigger point release therapy internally, it is working for the pain but it is a very slow process and i think is going to take months to really see any benefit, i am paying for this myself as i cannot get it on the nhs, but i think its money well spent
If you get relief after months of physio that's great. I was told 2 years but I am in USA. It is expensive when you go 2 or 3 times a week for 2 years. I did not get relief after 6 months. But then I did not get trigger point injections, I should have but was not offered. Therapist was telling me to do exercises that I knew were not compatible with PN/PNE. Sounds like your PT is knowlegeable about PN. Mine told me she was but maybe she was not updated on the latest. I only knew bc of previous therapist educated me on certain exercises to avoid.
Hi. I have been having private pelvic pain physio, inc myofascial release, once per week, for almost a year. Sometimes I feel it is helping, other times I am not so sure, but it helps to at least talk to someone who understands the condition.
