AIH/PBC with grade A cirrhosis

Hi,

I am still awaiting on my appointment with hepatologist, it is finally scheduled for the 18th of July. I do have all my tests on hand though, and I am positive on AMA, smsa, (still waiting on Ana Fibroscan was 24, 7, and only alt and ast are slightly elevated at this point. I read that with these results, and cirrhosis present, it is hard to follow up on the AIH treatment progress.

In the meantime, My gp prescribed urso that I am presently taking, 500 once a day. But my alp has never been elevated, I was doing my blood tests every year.

I was wondering if anybody has experienced or has anything similar in regard to the tests and condition. And what approach was recommended.

Any advice or comment is truly appreciated.

Thank you!

Hi, my mother have a similar condition. In the past she was diagnosed with AIH, two years ago she was diagnosed with cirrhosis since her lab works were abnormal, mild AST & ALT, moderated ALP and GGT, positive ASMA and CT scan confirming the latter. The biopsy revealed PBC, Cirrhosis but no hepatocellular damage with mild interface hepatitis which means AIH is inactive. From what she’s been told Immunosuppressant are not recommended for people with inactive disease, BUT Urso should be effective for treating PBC.

I think the first step is maybe to consider a liver biopsy, that can answer those questions.

Wish you well

Hello Shon1234,Thank you so much for your reply!

I am totally on board for biopsy, and I ll be asking for one when I see a hepatologist in few weeks.

As there is something very off with my liver tests. I just received a recent blood work from this week( I had COVID few weeks ago, and took AFT tests) so my alt is 74 and ast 67(the lowest I had) since November, and ggt and alp are normal as always, but my total protein is 2 points higher than normal.

I ve been on urso for few weeks, since I am positive for AMA and ASMA.

I ve been reading the posts from other members, and could not find anything similar.

I guess I ll know more in few weeks.

I hope urso is helping your mother to bring the enzymes to the normal range.

Wish you all the best!
