Hi

Back again šŸ˜˜

So diagnosed 6 months ago with PBC and taking urso, December ALP was 280

Have developed anxiety and prescribed Citalopram 10mg which I have taken for 3 weeks, had bloods done at 2 weeks and ALP has gone up to 380

Has anyone had similar?

It has helped with anxiety but GP is concerned and has asked me to discuss with consultant,

Just curious to see if anyone else has experienced this

Thanks

Rozm2004,

Please go to my posts and read my last few posts about my ALP climbing and what I did. It was never as high as yours but, you never know what can help.

Iā€™ve been told that benzodiazepines can increase liver numbers, same as with opioids. In fact, many prescription drugs can, including antibiotics.

My ALP is close to 600 my doctor wanted to give me zoloft because when I went there Monday for an appointment I was crying well maybe I was crying because I'm tired of taking tests I'm tired of them coming back bad and so I refused The Zoloft... I think with this disease you just can't take certain medication. I'm not telling you not to take it but that's probably why it went up don't be discouraged

Hi mjk98

Thanks for your reply, not sure what Zoloft is, are you on urso? Or any other meds, I totally understand how you feel taking tests, I used to cry a lot but donā€™t now just canā€™t seem to, even though I want to.

But I do agree with PBC thereā€™s not much in way of medication that doesnā€™t effect it,

Stay strong and thanks for your support

Hi

Same I donā€™t think Iā€™m depressed I think itā€™s the fatigue and anxiety is a new thing, my bones joints do ache a lot but think that could be Menopause or the PBC, do you have a diagnosis of PBC?

Hi ballymahon2

Thanks for your reply,

Yes I think they may have pushed them up but I was so bad a few weeks ago I had to take something and they have helped me, I work aaa paramedic so Work is stressful and Iā€™ve gone off sick again which has a knock on effect as I get more stressed and worried about my job, also have a lot of other stress which is making me anxious,

I used to exercise a lot but canā€™t seem to find the energy or motivation,

I know your right though, how did you find the energy ?

You have a very stressful job once i got over the shock of pbc i just relaxed a bit more i take the urso i feel well have made lifestyle changes and i feel i cant do anymore i didnt take time off work

I found counselling good i dont tend to think about pbc

I have no symptoms apart from elevated lfts

I feel well and i concentrate on that

I am hoping my blood levels have come down when i get my bloods done in feb my first blood tests since starting urso

Hope all goes well for you

Take care

I was contacted by HealthUnlocked to see if I had anything to add to this conversation. I have been on Urso for almost two years now. Initially I had a tremendous headache (which I am not prone to) and more itching than before taking it. The headache and flushing went away in only a day or two. The itching subsided after about two weeks. Since then, I am not aware of having any side effects. My liver function tests are back in the normal range. I do worry that there are other things that I should be testing or watching. I see that other people are having different tests. I had other chronic issues that I am managing and since before Christmas, I had stopped reading the postings here. I felt that reading about other people's issues and problems and testing was making me anxious. It was making me wonder if I was doing everything I could do. But I don't want to live my life always worrying about my health. I take my medicine. I see my doctors and do my best to stay rested and healthy. I don't want to go looking for trouble.

I found this website very helpful when I was first diagnosed but for whatever reason, right now, I don't want to dwell on this condition and read about it all the time. It makes me anxious to be thinking about it so much. Does that help?

I also stopped watching the news so much because that makes me crazy too!

Rozm 2004 my alp was slightly higher than yours when i was diagnosed in late sept by late nov my alp level decreased significantly before i started on urso in december i am not due a blood test until feb i havent taken any meds or alcohol since diagnosis i think this has helped to bring down my alp level if you can manage your anxiety without meds i think this would help bring down your alp level

Good luck

Hi

I have been on Citalopram since June 19

I was diagnosed with Pbc August 19.

Been on Urso from Sept and my ALP came down to normal levels by Dec so the Citalopram didn't affect that. Since then my levels have gone up to just over 200 but the Dr's have never mentioned any connection so I would hazard a guess that citalopram have not made a difference to me except for helping me to deal with this disease.

Hope this helps
