Pbc, they put me on ocaliva earlier this year along with urso, apparently I'm not responding to either, ..my alkaline phosphatase fluctuates from the 120s to 161 every test, is there anything I can do food wise or herbal to lower this? I hate pills lol
Alkaline phosphatase is 161: Pbc, they put me... - PBC Foundation
Alkaline phosphatase is 161
I’ve been on only ocaliva since 2017. It worked great until about 3 months ago. Alk phos was elevating and fibroscan showed increased fibrosis since last year. My hep then sent me for an mri & mre. He wasn’t happy with those so I’m having a biopsy on the 26th. I personally want to trash the ocaliva but I’ll wait til he says to. I think most hepatologists prefer we not take herbs. Mine says no.
Fluctuating between 120 and 161 is not bad. I've been on URSO since 2016. At one point ALP dropped to 120, but, for a long time I'm at 150-170. It keeps fluctuating. For as long as I'm below 200, I'm not going to worry about it. 🙂 Good luck!
My lab has numbers that over 114 is flagged as high, so I'm paranoid lol
Usually, anything over 117 is flagged. But, having PBC means you'll have elevated ALP and it'll fluctuate. You can verify with your doctor, but, if you stay below 200, it's fine. If you steadily move over 200, then you need to discuss it with your doctor. Stop worrying. Your ALP numbers are fine.
hi Dunks72 have the doctors put you on fibrate with the Ursofalk yet? It solved the same situation for me (same elevation! Now back to all values normal) and many many others and is recommended / scientifically researched. Bezofibrate or fenofibrate and PBC Google here some research ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...
Hi, no so far I was out on urso first, that wasn't working so he added the ocliva and that isn't doing anything either , so far! I will mention it to him, thank you!
I am in same situation, Urso, oca, and now bezafibrate. First time I’ve been in normal range in 7 years. But yes, that’s more pills!
you should perhaps not need the ocalica when Fibrates are working check with your doctor?
need all 3 I’m told. It’s ok.
I don’t think your numbers are too bad. My liver consultant told me that they try to get our ALP below 200 when we have PBC mine have been above that for years and have just started coming Dow this year since starting Bezafibrate.
I have been on Urso for 22 years and I have tried every diet/change I can think of and my Alk Phosphates have always between 261-266. My hep specialists say that my nos are not that bad and so I have decided to go with the flow. I feel okay most of the time except for sometimes crippling pains and fatigue. I do not take supplements though because I was advised it was a no no.
