Is an Alkaline Phosphate level of 71 (UK) good? Was put on steroids to deal with newly diagnosed PMR and they fell by 20 units in 2 weeks!

Hi Gioielli5

The reference range from a Laboratory test print out taken for me a couple of years ago is between 30 and 130 so it looks like 71 is towards the lower end of the range.

Sorry to read that you are diagnosed with PMR if you are seeing a doctor soon perhaps they could explain.

Like you said, it's important to always look at the 'normal' range from the laboratory that each person uses. They can be a bit different.

Thank you. Hope you are well. PMR extremely painful but steroid treatment is wonderful! Very small number if woman over 50 in the UK would suffer with both. I calculated it as about 1 in 2 million!

Polymyalgia Rheumatica- agonising pain in shoulders, upper arms and upper legs. Now on steroids and pain relief is incredible.

I am so sorry to hear you have to deal with this too but glad that you found something that helps the pain. I assume this is an auto immune disease too?

Yep! Still the steroids have stopped the pain from the PMR, the arthritis in my hands and pain in my liver side. So at the moment I’m feeling great. Lol x

The liver pain' can affect so many.. although when we read that the liver can't feel any pain, there is a 'capsule' around the liver that does, indeed, have many nerve endings. This is what causes us to have that upper right sided pain. Heat can often help as well. So glad you are feeling better.

That's reason for celebration for sure!!! 😊 Healthcare professionals may measure ALP levels in international units per liter (IU/l). The reference range for normal levels of ALP can vary from laboratory to laboratory. The United Kingdom's National Health Service (NHS) lists the reference range for adults aged 18 years and older as 30–130 IU/l
