Take 1 or 2

Hi everyone, for some reason I believe I misunderstood how to take my medication. I thought by starting ocaliva I could stop Urso? From what I've read I am supposed to take both. Looking for help here. Also I feel I've gained weight but no other problems.

Hi, Debrann.

Most people on OCA take it and Urso. That said, some only take OCA.

Only you and your clinician will know the answer for you. You really need to call them or their secretary to discuss this to ensure you are on the right pathway.

Yours,

Robert.

I'm also taking both. I understand that the Ocaliva is a "booster" to the Urso to help it work better to lower alkphos numbers. My numbers have lowered some taking it but I have a sort of bump breakout since like the third day of starting the Ocaliva. As far as the weight....... liver people have a tendency to carry a little more, especially in the gut, so best advice is to get moving!! Good luck

True, my age plus underactive thyroid PBC and now I have gained about 10 pounds in 3 months since I started ocaliva. Something has got to give, I started out itching really bad. Now that I take my meds before bed I don't itch. Any help of gaining so much weight?

I wish. I’m walking and hiking and can eat a mouse’s share of food and I can’t shake the weight. Sadly, If I don’t eat is the only time I can drop a couple.

I'm a little disappointed your doctor didn't make it clear what you were supposed to do. Definately give them a call.

Best wishes,

Pam

I think most but not all people take both? Agree with everyone else that you should check with doc. I’m one week in to takingboth. Itchy but if it’s working I will learn to live with it. Good luck.

I take both and I have strict instructions on how to take OCA (in am 30 min before eating) and URSO after eating- surprised you weren't given detailed instructions. Definitely call the Dr!

I was told to take them together, works for me. I take my thyroid med in am and the liver med in pm.

I take thyroid between 5am-6am. Oclavia immediately after lunch, usually noon.
