UK person wanting injectable methylcobalamin

Seasidesunshine1979 profile image

Hello everyone,

I'm based in the UK and have Pernicious Anaemia. I was able to buy methylcobalamin 1mg for self-injection online from Arnika Apotheke in Germany back in 2019/2020 and had it shipped to the UK. But a year ago, in 2022, when I messaged to purchase more, they said they were no longer able to supply the methyl form of injectable B12 to UK people which was really sad. Does anyone know if Arnika have re-started selling methyl b12 now in 2023? I messaged them but didn't hear back yet. Is there anywhere else in the UK or Germany to buy injectable 1mg methyl b12 for injection? (I saw Skin Brighton has them online but at extremely high cost; currently a box of 10 x 1mg is £200 from them, so I'm keen to find somewhere cheaper as Arnika used to charge about £30 for 10 x 1mg). Any advice greatly appreciated. On a separate note, I buy my Hydroxy B12 from various German suppliers, and still plan to inject hydroxy, but I also like to periodically use methyl b12 as well, just to try and cover all bases in case I'm responding better to one than another. I think Arnika also used to sell Adenosylcobalamin 1mg for injection too but I don't have much experience with that form and am not sure if any of you use that form and have any experience with it? Thanks for any advice.

I'm sorry to hear that. I haven't heard either way about Arnika but i was away from the forum for a while. I also don't know of any other methyl suppliers. I also have never heard of adeno injections - my understanding was that it was too unstable in liquid form therefore no one supplied it like that - i could be wrong!

Maybe wedgewood or others will know, i'm sure they'll be by at some point.

Arnika is sadly the only pharmacy that sells injectable methyl and adenosyl in Germany.

I bought sublingual "Nature Provides" Bioactive B12 in the UK from Amazon. That has both Methylcobalamin and Adenosylcobalamin. That was the best I could find.

I find that Methylcobalamin and Adenosylcobalamin together seems to be effective. I am aware that some people do not use Methycobalamin due to their personal feeling about a sales person who made false claims.

Trouble is that most P.A. patients can only benefit from injections .

Hey Wedgewood,

This article explains sublingual administration of Nanoparticulate Drug Delivery. (B12 is listed although it might be only because it is marketed.)

This abstract is a comparative analysis.

Subcutaneous is not "approved" either yet many people benefit.

I benefit from sublingual Adenosylcobalamin.

I know that sub-cutaneous injections are not approved in U.K. , but are definitely in Germany . It’s always written on the boxes of Hydroxocobalamin that we get from there .

I am unfortunately unable to benefit from sub-lingual B12 remedies for P.A. or the various mouth/nose sprays . I’m not the only one . But NHS will insist , so I have to carry on self-injecting .

An employee of NHS will actually state that any thing other than injections IS equivalent?

you can buy methylcobalamin in powder form from Oxford Bioscences. It needs to be mixed with injectable saline solution. They do give instructions. When I couldn’t get hydroxicobalamin from Germany did order it but have not used it yet as now have plenty of hydroxicobalamin. I had to get the saline solution from Israel Pernicious Anemia as couldn’t find anywhere in UK to sell them.

Saline is a prescription item in U.K.

You can get Saline from any of the usual German online pharmacies that supply U.K. It’s called NaCl 0.9% or use reference 02737756 . Comes in 20 x10ml ampoules .

Thankyou Wedgewood that’s so helpful for the future if I ever need to get them.

Yes, we all got a bit worried when supplies got more difficult to obtain ! We need back-up should it ever get difficult.

I don’t know if the “Water for injection “ for sale at exchangesupplies.org is suitable to use . I don’t know if it is the same as saline . …

I’m not sure but worth checking with them if required.
