Oxford Biosciences methylcobalamin in 2023 ( - 6yrs on!).

Hi all,

Found this thread by Hopefulandpositive, re. the above: healthunlocked.com/pasoc/po... - from ~6yrs ago. Informative enough; & good to know the product remains available ( - with, hopefully ?no reports of mishaps, or health hazards?).

Any experiences about this methyl-form ( - as powder, by this Bucks-based company) since then ?

Am giving careful consideration to how to dilute, then (- may be ?less of an issue) carefully store the prepared liquid. Should be feasible to get 40 x 1mg doses, in a sterile saline volume of choice (0.5 to 2ml, say) with some planning.

Believe reasonable 'protocols' are within our combined conception & wit! πŸ˜€

Think I'd better try an injectable methyl- form, ... & this is one of the (few) options.

Thanks to Jade_S, for bringing it to my attention last month ! πŸ™‚ πŸ™ πŸ™‚

I have tried it Sid_Arthur , and didn’t find it was any more advantageous than Hydroxocobalamin. There is also the problem of obtaining saline . Only available in U.K. on prescription. You have to get it from German online pharmacies .It’s called NaCl 0,9% Ref 02737756

if you order some there are instructions telling you how to rehydrate the powder . You cant get more than 10ml of saline into the bottle that the methylcobalamin powder is supplied in . ( both the 20’and the40mg amounts .) You must also be very careful about contamination in a multi dose vial

.Any how we are all different and the methylcobalamin maybsuit you very well. Arnika in Munich used to supply ampoules of methyl, but i don’t know if they still do .

Best wishes .

. . . thanks Wedgewood β—πŸ‘ πŸ™‚ It's getting closer to doing the methyl- form trial.

As a result of this thread, other Oxf Bio posts have been flagged up - the 1st from 7yrs ago, to which you'd also replied ! πŸ™‚

Pleased to know it's a well established product, anyway. Not too concerned about sourcing the injectable water - enuf options for that I feel. If I feel no different with it than the hydroxo-, . . . fine, I can live with that; nothing ventured . . .

Thanks for sharing your experience - yes, 1mg, & 5mg ampoules of the methyl- are available from Germany too ( - certainly a bit more convenient!) ... as advised again by our Jade_s ! πŸ˜€

(The 1mg ones as sets of 10 work out more expensive - the 5mg ones, . . . far better value in comparison, . . . & not too much more than the Oxf Bio, mg/mg ... ??! ).

Just because Methyl didn’t do better with me than Hydroxo( I have also tried the ampoules from Arnika in Munich ) doesn’t mean that they won’t for you . So I wish you the very best of luck . Horses for courses I say . πŸ‘

I’ll be glad when the heatwave is over ! Doesn’t suit me at all ! ( horses for courses as I said β€” we are all so different !)

Can you please detail where I can get them in Germany as I cannot find any?

jade_s profile image
jade_sβ€’ in reply toBellabab

If you’re looking for single use Methylcobalamin ampoules, you can get them from a small manufacturing chemist in Munich Germany. They do not have a site where you can order the ampoules. You need to get in touch either by phone or email or call +4989452468468 . arnikaapo.de/ They supply Methylcobalamin 1mg in 1mL as well as ampoules of 5mg in 1mL. Must be kept under 77 degrees F so you might want to wait to order if it's hot there.

You can get multi-use vials of Methylcobalamin POWDER from Oxford Biosciences in 20 and 40 mg vials. oxfordbiosciences.com/store... [For US orders, you have to contact them by email, you cannot order them online due to various reasons]. You have to mix the powder into a solution yourself using special NaCl 0,9% sterile saline solution. As long as you don't mix it up, in powder form it is heat/light stable.

I will send you a chat message as well.

Feel I have to point out that Injectable water is not the same as saline . Injectable water is used to flush out wounds . Saline is the same PH as the body and will not therefore sting . ( look it up on googje )

On top of that, saline for injections is expressly non-pyrogenic. Even ordinary sterile saline is not good for injecting.

Sid_Arthur profile image

. . . I'm trying to understand the difference between sterile saline marked for 'injection' ... & sterile saline ( - as sold for eye washes, for example) WHERE both contain exactly the same two components: purified/distill water & NaCl to the same concentration ( ~0.94%, usually?). Any ideas, anyone ( - so I can defer contacting the suppliers/producers!) ??!

Does 'non-pyrogenic' mean 'doesn't raise the temperature' ( - unlike a cooker hob, . . . or welding torch ??!). Or, . . . does it have another specific meaning, ... in this context??!

This link seems quite on-point:

Difference between Sterile and Pyrogen-free

February 16, 2019

Sterile and pyrogen-free are the most common criteria of pharmaceutical liquid preparations, especially for parenteral products. Therefore, a health professional must have a clear knowledge of these two words sterile and pyrogen-free. First of all, you need to understand the following terms:

Viable

Pyrogen

Sterilization

However, if you read this article carefully, you may understand the difference between sterile and pyrogen-free. To clarify the difference between sterile and pyrogen-free, read below points.

Rest available here:

It might be a good idea for someone to write a post which clarifies water/saline, sterile/pyrogen-free and pin it?

I'll duck out now. :-)

As a result of your post . I have looked into β€œ saline” and realise now that saline that can be purchased from Amazon.co.u.k. that is not suitable for injection , only for wound cleansing .

Proper saline for injections is only available on prescription in U.K.

Thanks for your information helvella !

Such 'sterile saline' (- esp. for eye washes, ... & single use for safety) can have just 2 ingredients. Even tho' these are not labelled 'non-pyrogenic', what other difference is there btwn them, & the saline for injection. ( - none I can see, . . . so far !).

I have used sublingual methylcobalamin and found it extremely helpful for neurological issues. I also find that replacing hydroxycobalmin injections every once in a while with a cyanocobalamin injection also helps. For me it’s clear that I need all three forms but at different times.

hello, recently started using Oxford Biosciences Methylcobalamin powder. Ordered medical saline from apohealth.de. Ordered insulin type needles they recommended.

Anyway, found it really easy to use. Covered jar in foil up to screw top. With a separate foil cover for the top, which is easy to remove each time to fill syringe.

Using Saline is not a problem. It's a one off action to reconstitute the powder to liquid B12 for injection, using only one plastic filled saline pod.

I am aware/concerned about bacterial risks. I am scrupulous re. sanitizing. Vial is put in another container and kept in fridge.

Early days yet, ok so far Im hoping it will help with neurological problems

Hi so I've just got some from oxford 40 grams size with 10 ml saline from apohealth , how much should I use in a lml shringe as this is twice as strong as the 20 gram one ?

Wheat profile image
Wheatβ€’ in reply tolorna59

Hello lorna, there is an insert sheet giving amount for 2ml, which I did not find initially helpful with brain fog πŸ™‚πŸ˜΅β€πŸ’«.

On the syringe 25 = 1ml (the usual measurement for ampule), and 20 = .800 of 1 ml.

Not the easiest bottle to judge draw up amount, but I am getting better. I aim for 25 (1ml) and expel air, and am ok with 20 to 25.

Hope this is helpful .

lorna59 profile image
lorna59β€’ in reply toWheat

Hello thank you for your reply' so do you have a 40 mg bottle as well which you give 25 on the syringe ?

Wheat profile image
Wheatβ€’ in reply tolorna59

Yes I have the 40mg bottle.

With recommended Oxford Bio Sciences insulin syringe, under their 'Resources' section.

Id forgotten, but initially I injected approximately .15 ml to check my reaction to MB12. Obviously ok

I do not inject after 4 pm.
