The possible beneficial effect for the treatment of peripheral neuropathy of two neuroactive steroids, progesterone and pregnenolone

I was researching pregnenolone on the internet and came across this article. It may be of interest to anyone struggling with neuropathy.

Pregnenolone is formed from cholesterol and is the precursor substance for numerous important endogenous hormones. Among others, progesterone, cortisol, and aldosterone can be formed from it, but also DHEA, the parent substance of sex hormones such as testosterone and estrogen.

Some of the paragraphs are a little technical, but besides NAC, R-alpha lipoic acid, and thiamine, this seems like an attractive substance.

There are a lot more interesting pages, for instance:

Hopefully, this is not old hat for you.

It's very encouraging to hear that you got relief from your symptoms. Apparently, like you, the B12 deficiency has left a slight numbness under my outer toes. I've been able to reduce paresthesia by increasing my thyroid medications, taking supplements like vitamins B1 and B6, R-alpha lipoic acid, and of course, more frequent B12 injections. Every little bit helps, so, I will give it a try.

Perhaps I should mention that I found out that i.m. Injections seem to me to be much more efficient than s.c. ones.

Thank you-by increasing progesterone I am hoping for an effect on my high blood sugar-it was a nice suprise that it reduced these symptoms unexpectedly,it's good that thyroid and vits has helped your neuropathy, malnutrition from absorbtion problems and lowered hormones from ageing-not a good combination!
