Can you take too many sublinguals?

So I know that you can't take too much b12 but I keep wimping out of self injecting and need to get myself through the few weeks before my next injection so I'm going to trial taking lots of sublinguals and see if that helps, I think they do help a tiny bit but no way near enough.

Anyone tried this before? is there anything else mixed with the b12 that could upset my stomach or have any other negative effects? They are 1000mcg and I'm thinking of doing maybe 5 per day initially and take it from there.

Ingredients:

Sugar-free natural sweeteners: mannitol, stevia (steviol glycosides); bulking agent: hydroxypropyl cellulose; anti-caking agent: ascorbyl palmitate; natural strawberry flavour; natural colour (beetroot); hydroxocobalamin; methylcobalamin; adenosylcobalamin

no problems with taking multiple sublinguals - hope they work for you.

Mannitol may give some side effects in some in larger doses.

Perhaps keep a symptom diary for your trial.

How often do you have b12 injections?

As you are aware of any effects from the b12 injections hopefully you csn isolate positive effects from b12 sublingual

I trued thus too but not in such large doses of sublinguals.

Let us know how you get on

Injections are 8 weekly from the doctors I was doing the same from home for the last few years so I had a jab every 4 weeks and that was working well and seemed to keep me pretty symptom free. I've got 2.5 weeks until my next gp jab and missed my si so I'm getting itchy skin, mouth ulcers, keep dropping things, so tired etc I'll definitely report back how I get on, fingers crossed!

I tried 5 and 10 x 1000mcg tablets at one point. They did nothing for me but I also didn't get any side effects. Hope it works for you.

How about getting a jab at a health spa?

Thanks Jade, good to know there were no side effects at least sorry they didn't work for you though. I did consider the ones you can pay to have done at lloyds pharmacy but it says they will tell your Dr, I have about 10 vials in the garage waiting for when I stop being ridiculous!

That's too bad, why should they care 🙄

If you don't mind my asking... ☺️ What is it about SI'ing that's freaking you out? The pain, or the fear of pain? Fear of doing damage? Pressure from family? Something else? Are you doing IM or SC?

I hope it stays cool in the garage, otherwise please consider putting them in the fridge as temps go up.

My husband does it for me because I can't do it myself. Honestly I used to be ok with it but in January the nurse did my jab too high and my arm still hurts now so waiting for an msk referral, I think that has made me more worried about something going wrong. I'm so frustrated with myself because I know how unlikely it is especially in the thigh. Garage is always freezing!

I had same thing with young nurse doing shot too high and it also really hurt,my arm was sore for months after and I’ve never gone back to surgery I do my own now,at least I can control what I’m doing but like you it’s not something I enjoy doing.I still injected that arm but kept away from the sore spot she created.

You could try subcutaneous,it’s a smaller yellow needle very very fine, just inject the b12 in slowly.

Are you changing the needle you use to withdraw from the ampoule before you inject? I use a filter needle then change to the smaller orange one for my shots,it doesent have to be filter needles I just prefer them.

Are you warming the b12 before you inject so no sting? Just stick down your top or waistband or pocket to warm the ampoule contents it’s much better.

I told my new young gp ,private, yesterday this is what I do and he was delighted for the tip lol

Ouch, I'm sorry to hear that. Sounds like it might have hit a nerve or something. I also second doing them subcut. You can do them into your leg or your tummy.

I can understand the mental block. When I started my IM trial last month I was quite freaked out. I put some TV shows on in the background as a sort of distraction. If you drink, have some wine beforehand ;) Or some chocolate as a reward afterwards... whatever it takes. Remember you will feel SO much better afterwards. Can hubby help you do breathing exercises?

Anyway sorry I just remembered you didn't ask for help with any of this, so just ignore my butting-in if it's not appropriate :)

Its fine to take multiple doses of sublingual but offer my experience to you if it helps:

- Take one every hour, its easy to remember that way

- Stop taking them after 3pm. If its later, they may keep you awake or disturb your sleep

- Find one that has the least amount of additives. If there's too much sugar, colour or sweetener, it can upset your body ph and just generally feel icky under your tongue. There are some with just methyl/adeno and reverse osmosis water. And eith these youll hardly notice.

- Keep going with the same dose everyday

Thanks, the after 3pm thing is good to know! I find it hard to sleep when I'm low anyway even when I feel exhausted

Thanks for those suggestions. I am relying on sublinguals at the moment but have been taking B12 later than that and am getting weird dreams and sleep disturbance, so will try adapting my timings.

I am very sensitive to fillers etc and seem to be doing ok with Cytoplan, which have slightly fewer additional ingredients - I was using the methyl/adenosyl 1000 mcg and have just added the hydroxy 1000 mcg. I've also used Metabolics methyl liquid for some time with no problems, side effect wise. (I don't self inject/have injections and am just trying higher doses of sublinguals, so thanks for your question - some helpful answers. I shall attempt to work up to hourly until 3 pm, in one form or another. Trying to reduce current methyl but increase total B12 intake.) Hope it works for you.

Cytoplan ones are really good and they are doing 3 for 2 at the moment

Thanks for that. I can't see an offer on the site, where did you find it please?

Ah just looked and you're right. They had a 3 for 2 just under two weeks ago when I placed an order but it's not there now :( Will have to keep an eye out for when they do it again and stock up

Thanks for letting me know - now I can keep a check on the site too! Cheers

Hi Clare184,

I avoid mannitol as it has caused me a lot of severe digestive issues in the past. So I don't take anything containing it.

As Nakapan has said keep a symptoms diary to keep an eye on how your body responds.

Best wishes
