Mixing Methylcobalamin

Hello..I was hoping someone could answer a question for me. I found where B12(methylcobalamin form) could be purchased from Oxford Biosciences. I am just concerned about the storage part. Does the B12 come in a vial where the lid can be popped off and you just add the sterile saline? Is the lid the kind you stick your needle into, like a multi use vial? I assume you keep this in the refrigerator. This seems like a good price. Just would like to feel better about how you reuse each time. As far as being clean to inject into the body. Hope this makes sense and thank you so much for your time.

Hi Sunny560. I bought some methylcobalamin from Oxford Biosciences a couple of years ago - and ended up not using it because I was concerned about storage and maintaining the sterile status of the injectable B12.

The Methylcobalamin crystals came in a screw top bottle which had to be opened to add the saline. Once the bottle of methyl crystals and the vial of saline is opened and mixed with the methyl crystals, the sterile integrity of the (now fluid) B12 can no longer be guaranteed and is therefore potentially open to contamination. More specially so as it will be some time before all the B12 is used (longer for contamination to take place). And the potential for contamination is further increased every time the bottle is handled and a new injection drawn up.

Would it have been okay to use. Who knows.

Would I advise anybody to inject a substance that has been stored after the sterile integrity has been broken and which no longer comes from a guaranteed sterile source - no.

So...as per Eaoz's, I'd also always advise using single-dose ampoules for anything that's going to be injected into the body.

👍

Thank you so much for your replies. I will check into the single dose vials from Germany. I really appreciate your time.

Hello Eaoz,

I an new to forums. I hope I am doing this correctly and this reply will go to you. Where do you buy the hydroxocobalamin from Germany? Also, do you inject this IM or Sub Q. I read somewhere where IM was painful with this form of B12. I only have experience with cyanocobalamin given IM in the past. Now, of course I am just trying to find a way to get any form and use it safely. Thank you again.

Try versandapo.de if you click on the union flag in the bottom left it will load up (mostly) English pages. Then search for hydroxocobalamin acetat and you should find the right stuff. I use Rotexmedia.

You can inject it IM or SC.

I've used hydroxocobalamin, cyanocobalamin and methylcobalamin IM and I've not found one any more painful that t'others.

Hello,

I am trying to order hydroxocobalamin from Versadapo.de. Just a couple questions. I sent an email to them but I have not received a reply. Do they ship to the US? I do not see us listed on their places they ship to. How about duties you have to pay or other fees. Is this ever a problem shipping from another country?

Ah! I assumed you were in the UK, having ordered from Oxford Bioscience.

Duty, etc, is not a problem for us because we're still in the EU. Even if we carry the Brexit madness to its calamitous conclusion I'm pretty sure that WTO rules state there's no duty payable for pharmaceuticals.

However, it may be that they don't ship to the USA. Canada might be an option, but I seem to recall they won't ship across the border.

Sorry.

Thank you. I found a place in the UK that sells the 1000mcg/1ml ampules. It is the cyanocobalamin but I guess it is better than nothing. It appears it is really hard to get anything shipped here to the US. Thanks again for your help. It is most appreciated.
