Some people react badly to excess B6 - and all too many products contain far more B6 than is needed. There is a game that some supplements companies play of hiking up numbers so rather than a sensible 10 or 20, they put in 100 because it LOOKS better. Whilst it might get excreted, even fairly quickly (though I do not know much about this), there can be problems between swallowing and excreting.

Hi..sorry to but in on this but the B vits supplement I have just started taking contains 2mg. Would this be considered excessive?

Also, foxglove that seems only to be on long-term high dose. I wouldn't worry about the odd high dose.

Thanks again, had a read through link bit too complicated for me (poor old brain again - you don't have to agree with this!) Fortunately I very often forgot to take the supp and haven't been taking for long, a case of hope for the best now!!!

Last reply didn't seem to have posted .. The supp. I was taking contains 1.4mg. Honestly don't know if this is excessive. Helvella has posted a link

This is the key fragment of helvella 's link -

High intakes of vitamin B6 from food sources have not been reported to cause adverse effects [1]. However, chronic administration of 1–6 g oral pyridoxine per day for 12–40 months can cause severe and progressive sensory neuropathy

So it looks OK as long as you stick to fewer than 700 of your tablets per day!

Should be OK then!...What a relief - I'm one of nature's panicers - have on more than one occasion be called a "worry wart" Thanks for highlighting the key fragment of helvellas link also

Thanks, just what I have been thinking!!!! Poor old brain on the slow side, product I was on says 100 and I belatedly remembered from somewhere that B6 could cause neuropathy which I think applies to me. Just hope it DOES clear quickly!!!!

Definitely not! I became quite seriously toxic from taking a high potency B over a period of a few months. Unfortunately the toxicity symptoms are similar to deficiency.
