I'm in the 5th month of treatment inj everyday with cofactor's but my stomach is still very weak. I have better days like yesterday but the day before wow bad. then bowels as well cramping so bad on Tuesday then yesterday was better. today it's trying to cramp up again. I've tried the kifer but the only one in our town is with milk so I think thats still bothers me, Ive stared aloe vera juice with not filet , I do take a pro biotic pill. and i still can not eat very much variety of foods. so I eat very clean but not much. I tried to take a childs dose of liquid mineral vit on Monday and it has magnisium so I think that's what made me get worse. I use a get at night 275 mg on my legs. I'm not sure what else will help. the vegies really make my tummy bad too.

I make my Kefir with soya milk using kefir grains as I have a problem with cow protein. Every 4th batch when it starts depleting and needs 'feeding' I use goats milk, or make one batch with cows milk (my partner uses this), rince the grains for use with soya milk. Hope this is helpful.
I’m suffering bowel problems too at the moment. Like you, 5 months in. I have been trying to treat my gut and I’m seeing a nutritionist. Up until three weeks ago I was doing much better, but recently it’s loose, uncomfortable. I had been having goats milk kefir and lots of different pre and probiotics, but did laps a bit over the last three weeks, because I felt so rotten. So I’m starting again and taking them every day. I found taking a good natural kefir before did help so hoping it will do so again. Ive just done another gut microbiome test which flagged that I am low on some essential good bacteria, and seeing my nutritionist again next week, so hoping she can tweak my gut supplements to help. It’s frustrating though, as soon as one thing seems to get better, another takes over. 😒
yes Chickens44 you are correct in that if it's not one thing it's another. but I was thinking our bodies are getting rebuilt from almost dying so it will take a while to rebuild but it is painfull. and when we learn from eachother what helps rebuild that makes everything worth while. thank you for your post
Have you considered making your own kefir. It is extremely easy to do. I have fresh kefir everyday on my cereal. It takes around 2 minutes per day of my time.
The beauty of making your own is that you choose what it is made from;
Organic whole milk, semi-skimmed milk, goats milk, coconut milk, soya milk etc. Supermarket kefir usually has around 13 types of bacteria and doesn't use kefir grains but uses a yeast instead. If you buy or otherwise get hold of some kefir grains and make your own kefir, then this will likely contain over 40 types of bacteria. You can also dictate how thick it becomes by how long you leave it and at what temperature. My kitchen is a fairly steady 20 degC and my kefir is about as thick as pouring cream after 24 hours. The process also converts most of the lactose in the milk into Lactase which is another bonus.
I buy my kefir from a company The Chuckling Goat Company. Very good goats milk kefir, not cheap, but for now I have too many things to think about without having to make my own kefir. Maybe one day.
are you taking any medications? If you are try stopping all medications. See if you continue with your issue. If you have improvement reintroduce one medication at time.
Whoah. We're not in position to tell the poster to "stop all medications", We do not know all their health conditions, their medical history, what they are taking and why. Depending on why a particular medication was prescribed, it may not be safe for them to cease taking it without consultation with their GP.
well thank you for replying I am not on a medication only the suppliments but I do have the gastritis and it's been a problem for the 6 1/2 yrs of this journey, I've been having better times with it but lately it's been getting worse at times. I will say In the first of treatment it was way more painfull though, I will try maybe to make my own kefir . I saw some on amazon the grains. and I will continue to find foods that I can tolerate for now.
Glad to hear no medications. You’re lucky. Keep supplementing nobody knows how long before you can relax. It took almost 3 years before I was diagnosed with PA. I now inject daily. Over the past 8 years my doctors were treating symptoms of b12 problems with medication to the point I was taking half a dozen daily and others as needed. I’ve stopped all medication and feel great. Now I may drop dead next week but I would prefer to live for a week feeling good than live for a year feeling lousy.
I would leave that to the individuals. You know what your meds are, if they are life sustaining absolutely don’t stop. But if you take a proton pump inhibitor with a statin and something for the bladder etc etc.
my point is simple a lot if the meds you take are based on symptoms they never find the problem. If you suddenly find yourself B12 deficient or worse with PA it didn’t just happen it happens over a period of years, therefore in many cases the doctors are treating the symptoms of B12 deficiency which mirror many other health issues .
So if you can do it safely stop all medications check with your doctor BUT make your own choice. I trust no doctors due to what I saw happen during Covid. They just keep treat the symptoms with medications next think you know your taking half a dozen meds and feel horrible all the time.
Look at the side effects of any medication you take they usually include fatigue and some kind of gut issue or diarrhea.
That's my point, that we should not advise anyone to just "try stopping all medications" as you did. Whether they can eliminate medications is a decision they can only make in full knowledge of the consequences of doing so. Given the amount of medical and nutrition misinformation going round these days, it makes such a decision something best conducted following a discussion with their GP.
A statin could be life-saving if someone has uncontrolled high LDL/ApoB that they are unable to get a handle on with nutrition or lifestyle, due to injury, disability or genetics for example.
A PPI that is correctly prescribed to counter excessive stomach acid and reduce the incidence of GERD could be important for long term health. Although the excessive stomach acid could be caused by a poor diet, the patient may not wish to change their diet and so would need to continue on the PPI. I certainly know someone like that. If the root cause is not fixed, then the medication must be continued to attempt to counteract the harmful effects. There are risks and trade-offs and someone could make a legitimate decision that if they want to continue behaviour X, they will need medication Y. Up to the individual, as you said.
I do agree that many doctors deal with symptoms and do not dig into root causes and I think there are multiple reasons for this including lack of time during patient appointments, a lack of focus on preventive care in training and more.
I experienced this myself as B12 deficiency presents with many symptoms which I found overwhelmed and confused the doctors I dealt with. This focus on treating symptoms is not universal as I have come across some doctors online with a very different focus and more of a preventive care mindset but I never encountered that in real life (nor has anyone I spoke to about their experiences with the health system).
I totally agree with you about being your own advocate and doing your own research, in fact I wrote a whole post on "doing your own research" here : healthunlocked.com/pasoc/po...
However not everyone has the time, inclination or interest to become an expert in topics in medicine or nutrition so we must be realistic about how much we can learn in comparison to specialized experts in a particular field for example.
you do what you want. I will investigate and do what’s best for me. Who knows my body and my health better than. If you out your faith in a doctor good luck.
You could have some allergies or sensitivities to some of the foods you are eating. Maybe get allergy tested? Or find a nutritionist to guide you through an elimination diet to help figure out all your triggers? I am triggered by mold and mildew. I had problems with a pillow once that wandered to my side of the bed. It is wise to replace pillows regularly. I will also get an upset stomach from smelling bleach.
oh my interesting, yes I'm sure for now and the passed several years with PA and gastritis I do have food sensitivities for sure. I can only eat some sea food , some vegies, eggs, and some small amount of hamberger meat.
I research and experimented for 11months until I found what worked for me.
Since I started my gut fixing plan, 13 months later, I can now eat without symptoms of cramps, diarrhoea or nausea which is liberating having been in a position where the cramps, nausea and diarrhoea meant hours in the loo each day, and an unwillingness to leave the house for want of a loo rush!
I will put together a specific post to outline the steps I took, but basically I removed foods that are considered to damage the gut, I assumed I had SIBO and H. pylori and ate a diet to “kill the bad bacteria off”, I then fasted and then ate foods considered to rebuild the gut wall, and ate foods (such as kefir, kombucha and preserved vegetables), no refined sugar at all.
