Abdominal wall hernia repair with mesh

please what should I expect after the surgery in Jan 2025. Should I have it done or live with it? Mine is big. Low strangulation risk. However I am concerned about what happens after, particularly as I just had my Gall bladder removed in July 2024 and dealing with horrible aftermath of that. Also I am told I need to have 10 Botox injections into my stomach muscles at least 4 to 6 weeks prior to the surgery. All very overwhelming. Anyone with stories to share that can give me some perspective.

HI I do not have your exact symptoms but had fifteen years ago , I had a hernia left side , the hernia came out dropped the size of my ball next to it, I was in so much pain , they did surgery that night and then found I had a hernia behind the belly button and did the repair also with mesh , the surgery went well, the only problem was I caught an infection while in hospital , I was in a week they sorted it. I have had no problems to date and don’t think about the hernias until you mentioned it. The pain of the surgery was zero .

We are all different, that was my experience, I wish you all the best. Sorry you have had a rough time of it , I see your concerns love David x

Hi David,

I’ve a hernia behind my belly button after a gallbladder removal and a hysterectomy all within a few months. Would you recommend the hernia repair, not that I think I’ll be offered it!

Thanks for any info!

I think this is difficult and I am no expert at all and really the only correct advice I think is a scan and understanding of is the hernia a bother or risk to you, which often belly button hernia is not. I feel , you should give your body a break a rest and lots of repair time. You personally a break, monitor the hernia and only have it done if it becomes of great discomfort. If the wait is a long time for a hernia belly button you could still go on the witing list and as long as you cancel a few weeks in advance, nothing wasted and some one else won't miss out.

Only my un professional onion, I do think it is important to remember if at any stage surgery can be avoided then yes it should.

Loads love have a great Christmas.x

Thanks David. Glad to hear yours went well. We are all different but I am praying I will be OK. The alternative really is to leave it alone and wear a corset for the rest of my life according to one of the NHS doctors. That suits me as I am not really bothered about how it looks.Have a happy Christmas if you celebrate it.

Love Joy x
