reflux pain with hitus hernia

Hi , anyone get reflux pain so bad it makes me regurgitate and after the pain stays in my neck, , throat and goes to my ribcage it leaves my neck feel like there is something stuck in my throat and swollen glands , sometimes I get heartburn badley also. Thing is I was sent to hospital and had the camera and was told I had a hitus hernia and a tear in my stomach , I take several meds for the reflux but the pain stays there for days they took biopsies from my throat and I am waiting to go again for a barium meal to look again, then right out the blue I get a call from the hospital saying they want me back in next week , I just want a day without pain in my gullet and neck I am still eating ok but coughing as well , cant sleep at all I have to sit up in bed with 4 pillows , this has been going on for about 5 months now , any ideas what could help or has anyone had this and could give me some advice please xx

I am so sorry about your situation. I do get acid reflux and heartburn from a small hiatal hernia. I take omprezole daily. I’m guessing you will have surgery on the tear? The surgery may help you alleviate most pain. I have no throat pain that you speak of. When I choke on the acid at night it is very uncomfortable trying to get all the acid out of my lungs. I wouldn’t call it pain. Keep me updated. I pray you get some relief soon.

Do you take any antacids besides your prescription medication? I used to have really bad acid reflux, and still do but finally have it managed with my dexilant (60 mg) try taking maalox, and Pepcid Ac, don’t eat 3 hours before you lay down, and stay away from spicy foods, and peppermint.. but you probably already know that. Hope you get some relief soon!! Good luck

thank you all for answering, yes I take Gaviscon advance every hour and 2x40mg of Omeprazole 4 times a day, I now have a date for operation , it cant come quick enough so I go in on the 17th October to have tear mended and hernia sorted so fingers crossed I will be fixed , I sleep with 4 pillows sitting up because if I lay flat I regurgitate and it scares me its like choking that I have no control over , neck still sore as though I have swollen glands but I haven't …… oh well hope it goes away soon xxxxxx

Sorry you have been suffering. I was diagnosed with GERD and esophagitis 23 years ago. I was vomiting stomach acid and having horrible headaches. I was also diagnosed with adult onset asthma which they said was brought on by the GERD. Do you by chance have asthma too? Over the years I have had a narrowing of my upper airway and had had a lot of food come up and other issues you are describing. I have noticed that if I use my inhaler often it helps open the airway and the food goes down better. If you don’t get the answers you need, find another doctor who will listen and keep searching until you do. Keep us posted. Good luck.

sorry to hear you have suffered for so long no I don't have asthma but the hospital did mention a narrowing of the airway and I do regurgitate food , I just have no control and then I cant get rid of the sick that stays stuck in my windpipe, ( horribal isent it ) today I had a bad attack of reflux and pain under my ribs so just went to a walk-in centre I couldent stop bringing the acid up and the pain was crippling me, so they sent me back to hospital who now have said I could also have an ulcer , I cant cope with all this and getting told one thing after another, I just want to eat a meal without reflux and a goodnights sleep, thank you for helping me , i'll just have to continue with all these antacids and pain relief until my next appointment , fingers crossed they will sort it out soon xxx
