Hi everyone wow look at all these replies tells me there is a grey area on this subject. I had an injection in 2014 I only got 2 weeks relief so they wouldnt give me another one. I've had guided steroid injections in my 2 shoulders and omg it worked instantly!!!!. I've suffered ever since I had surgery 1999 think I said 1997 before which was wrong. I'm on morphine patch gabapentin duloxitine paracetamol as I've had to stop taking naproxen been on them way too long and my stomach very upset so gp sending me to get checked now there is an alternative to naproxen ut they wont prescribe them because they are too expensive and that came from a physiotherapist!!! Its just awful for everyone living with pain people dont fully understand until they live it. The capsaicin cream I've not been able to get for months as there is an issue with it so today I've getting another prescription for different cream as capsaicin wont be available till march next year !!!! I will get the name of the cream when I pick up prescription. Thank you so very much for all these replies

Oh my you must have a severe injury to require all those meds. Have they made you gain weight? They made my belly grow and over time I developed non alcoholic fatty liver disease. It’s gone now because I’ve weaned off of four meds.

It’s a bummer you can’t find capsicum cream but have you found capsicum pain patches?

There is a Japanese company that exports incredible hot ( capsicum ) and cold ( menthol ) pain patches. Website is satopharm.com.sg. Sato is the company that makes them.

I highly recommend them. They saved my life for several years while I had a severe nerve compression injury in my right buttock that no doctor would take care of.

Conservative medical management DID NOT take away my pain. Fortunately, after 4 years of living hell ( no sleep and I lost cognitive functioning) I got the surgeries I needed.

If you give me your email I can send you a picture of the capsicum patch. They are 3”x5” inches in dimension and they are strong.

Hi konagirl60 thanks for replying. Yes I had a disectomy on L5 but s1 protruding so it's not stop pain !!! I've not heard of they patches I must look it up thanks for that. I've tried all different meds over the years I think your body gets used to them after a while. I fell off the works bus and that's what caused my problems my operation was an emergency as I had cauda equine syndrome so I'm left with some bowel damage and need to take meds for that too. I have times I cant walk but I do have a wheelchair and I use a stick. Not getting any easier the older I get lol. I speak to Painmanagement next week to see about spinal injection unless they can come up with something else. Hope you are well today take care x

You’ve been a trooper to get through what you’ve experienced.

Just curious? What would they inject you with?

I too have a bit of stool incontinence due to my right pudendal nerve being left pinched in three spots for 4 years. It’s not an everyday occurrence though. I am 66 years young.

Just read your post about stool incontinence. I had the same problem to a lot of vaginal anal sphincter tearing. Attempts to repair the damage I had a Keilands forceps delivery unsuccessfully as the tissue was too thin. I now use a system called Persisteen system It is basically irrigation the lower part of the bowel and rectum.

I can go out without fear of any incontinence. It has changed my life

Hi. I am interested in your post because I too had emergency surgery for Cauda Equina. Mine was last December. I have tried many of the medications you are on but for me I find Duloxetine is on the whole effective for me and I use Tramadol for breakthrough pain.

My question is have you had a recent MRI which may explain your symptoms now? I met with my surgeon this week to discuss my MRI. It shows there is still a compression and any ways forward. I have been offered the injection but was advised that the pain relief I would get would be temporary and of course there is (like any procedure) some risk, so I don’t think I will be going ahead with that.

Hi be vy thanks for the reply. My fiscal first and was pressing on my spinal cord so my bowels font get message from my brain do on meds for life now. Incomplete cauda equina they call it. I had an mri scan last year that still shows s1 protruding so its non stop and I have loads of scar tissue so they wont operate unless it's an emergency again unfortunately. I did get an injection in 2014 but it wasnt successful. Now I'm at 5he stage I just cant keep living like this my mobility getting worse by the minute so I'm waiting to speak to Painmanagement. I've been on gabapentin for years 2 years after my operation it all flared up again I did try pregabalin but they changed my mood so went back to gabapentin was on morphine tablets for 6 years but I tapered off them it was horrible le how they made me feel so I'm back on patch form this time. I ask the doctors to give me a medication revue and if they say why , tell them about your stomach problems. I am with the pain clinic which is free and do offer exercisers to help with my pain. I am on the Morphine for the rest of my life and I have learnt to live with a certain amount of pain. My hobby is birdwatching which helps with gentle exercise and being outdoors this keeps my mind on other things instead my pain, at the moment I have appointments with pain clinic, physiotherapist and the pain clinic as I am having a bad spell at the moment.

Hi jeffmett thanks for replying. Yes I will tell Painmanagement next week been on naproxen way too long and the thing is my stomach has always been good never had any issues but I had said to gp someone needs to listen to me !!!! Ita all on record I did ask for an alternative so if anything shows up they've got alot to answer for !!!. Aw hope your bad spell moves on soon I totally understand I'm in the same position right now. You take care

Since Covid I found it a lot harder to get to see any doctors appointments or appointments with the pain clinic

Yes I get that but you've got to be very persistent with them !!!! Hope you feel at ease soon

Usually, you can only get steroid injections 3 times in a year. Also, there is a prescription pill called Duexis which is 800 mg of Ibuprofen and 26 mg of Famatodine combined in the same pill. The Famatodine helps prevent the stomach issues you speak of. There's also another NSAID called Meloxicam that is stronger than Ibuprofen.

Unfortunately the injections don't always work but it is worth having them done again. I have had several injections over the last 16 years, when they work they last for years.
