Strange Recurring Daily Pain.

Hi. For the past couple of months I've had, sometimes bad, sometimes severe, pain on waking in the morning. The pain is in both of my shoulders and my biceps, and running across the back of my neck. I move very carefully as any wrong movement brings a stab of extremely serious pain but even without movement the severe background pain is there all the time.

The weird thing is, after a couple of hours sitting (I use a wheelchair) the pain, almost imperceptibly, begins to fade until, typically, at 15.00, I can move around with just a pain in my right bicep. My GP, before he went on leave arranged for an injection in my right shoulder next Wednesday (I can't believe that will deal with the suffering in both shoulders and arms) but in the meantime I've been left in severe difficulty.

That sounds painful. It actually sounds like frozen shoulders. There is quite a complicated exercise you can do for that, looks easy but if done correctly more difficult than it looks. However I would suggest seeing a musculoskeletal specialist. You can usually see them without a referral if that is easier. He should be able to help you.

Dear Micox

I am not medically qualified buy may be able to give you something to consider through my own experience. I though it hilarious when the Doctor said is occurred through repetitive usage. I was bed ridden. It is easy to rule out with a scan or Xray. Does this sound familiar. They say the pain in debilitating but I was already on pain relief so didn't need more. What I found interesting is that I thought I could categorise every form of pain in existence but this one was new to me. I hope this helps. Kind regards Anna

Have you had a blood test, only sounds you may perhaps have PMR complicating matters. If proves to be the case then drugs are readily available which relieves the pain absolutely. I know because I had sudden onset pain in both upper arms and could not understand why until a doctor correctly diagnosed the condition.

It could be polymyalgia rheumatica. You should Google the term and see if it matches your symptoms. There is also a very nice group on health unlock for people with PMR.

Thank you Amkoffee. The symptoms fit. My GP returns from leave on Monday and the practice have booked a phone call from him on Monday. This is in advance of his already booked injection appointment for this Wednesday. But the appointment is for 8.20 and I'm in such pain in the morning that I'll never make that!

Just get yourself up early, take some aspirin the night before and in the morning. Give yourself plenty of time in the morning.
