Possible Gastritis Help Please :,(

I’m currently experiencing bouts of the worst tummy pain I’ve ever had. It started on New Year’s Day with a vague feeling of just feeling under the weather, fever, off food and mild tummy ache. Fast forward to January 2nd and the vague tummy ache became constant and accompanied by the most awful tummy cramps lasting between 5-10 seconds each time and happening regularly throughout the day.

Went to the hospital for a ultrasound yesterday (normal) and bloods as well as a test for h pylori which I’m still waiting for results. I did test positive for a uti and have antibiotics for that, but dr says because of my pain being high up in my tummy, above belly button that that will not be the cause of my pain. She did say it could be gastritis.

I have never heard of this before and whenever I look online some symptoms fit but I don’t see anywhere about these painful contraction like pains - I have noticed they seem worse after eating and also with certain movement? But the way I’m feeling is just so awful, I don’t have an appetite have lost weight and just feel so tired. If I fancy eating it’s just plain food- but after two slices of toast made my pain worse I now just feel like I won’t bother eating- although I have to as my antibiotics need to be taken with food.

I guess I’m wondering if anyone can relate to my symptoms, especially the painful spasms of pain which do happen for no reason but definitely worse if I move or after eating. They last about 5-10 seconds and then ease. I also have a burning feeling in my tummy and after eating my tummy becomes noisy, bubbly and generally more painful plus with the contractions on top just awful!

I have been given buscopan but they don’t help at all. So until my results are back my only slight relief is a hottie on my tummy.

Sorry for babbling any advice or replies so appreciated.

A couple of extra things - I had a colonoscopy in May which just showed a small polyp.

I, like many, over indulged at Christmas, and as it was my birthday too (a week ago today when I felt like a completely different person) went out for an Indian and drank rather a lot of white wine - I’m not usually a big drinker.

Hi,

After my AF diagnosis I identified the onset of an AF event with food I'd eaten.

Symptoms were .... diahorrea, loud intestinal gurgling, burping and massive, massive and very painful bloating around the gut just below lowest ribs.

My GP at the time had bloods done for IBS and Coeliac Disease. all clear.

I then consulted a Nutritionist for advice on diet. She started me going gluten free, wheat free and oats free. Over many months, and years I have widened this diet including looking at many foods and parts of FODMAPS. Now after keeping to sensible foods over many years I have very few AF events and no gut events, well not unless I eat forbidden foods. 😱😱

Do you mean atrial fibrillation?

yes.

That’s great to hear John. I’m trying to watch what I eat at the moment, even though I’m not sure it’s gastritis and have had little positive effect yet.

Has the doctor checked your gallbladder or pancreas?

hi, yes I’ve had both scanned and they are ok.

hi, I think I might have gastritis. I haven’t been properly diagnosed. I had an attack on first weekend of November. Having eaten Chinese, I felt nausea, pain below my chest and high temperature for a while. On that Sunday after having roast dinner had a bit pain there but also psin in my back. Got emergency appt with drs. following day. She examined me. Felt that my gallbladder is fine. She questioned whether is Gord? I was put on lazaprenol. I took for two weeks. It helped. Stopped to do a charcoal wash for nearly a month. That helped great to start with. Before long made thing a bit worse; IBS triggers and the gastric symptoms returned. I restart lazaprenol and went to doctors to go on a repeat prescription. This was week leading to Christmas. This year, still taking meds. Get pain below my chest from time to time. I’ve noticed I feel nauseas, start burning up. Then the feeling passes. I feel weak, shaken and sweaty. I wonder if this is an anxiety thing. I have waking up in the morning feeling mildly shaky, then, stomach feel uncomfortable and hard. Feel a little irritable as well. These are normally signs of anxiety given passed experience.

These ads they often play about going to dr. because of signs of cancer etc. they’ve aggravated at the time and still stick with me 😢

I’ve had the muscle twitch in the stomach. I’m monitoring the situation for now as getting a drs. appt is very hard this time of year.

I can definitely relate to the anxiety, mine is so high today. It’s good that meds seem to help your symptoms and from what I understand you still need to be mindful of what you eat so definitely worth remembering that.

The stomach issues are one thing, but I’m also worried as to why I have a constant fever too :( I need to be patient and wait for results but it’s hard when your mind runs wild!

While you wait anxiously for tests, scans or results, try taking passionflower pills. They are natural and they calm down our agitated Sympathetic Nervous System. The flight and fright kicks in when we’re in pain and worried. These pills help tremendously.

that’s a good idea. I’ll look out for the passionflower pills.

When I can I distract myself as much as I can when waiting for test results, dr. Appt. I try and help each day go quicker.

It feels like punishment, Knic, when having wait for results to come back.

oh god! Don’t! Been there as well. It certainly delivers the worst case scenario. It’s brought near to tears at least once. Trouble is, Google’s instant. GP appointment aren’t 😣

Do you feel sick or been sick ? Gastritis is inflammation of the lining of the stomach, buscopan won't work because that's for your bowels usually given for IBS, you would need stomach protectors for example, lanzoprozole, omerprozole, esmeprozole, gaviscon, Ronnie's, etc. I had Gastritis in November caused by asprin went to a+e and they upped my omeprozole to 2x a day, for pancreatitis which it sounds more like a scan wouldn't necessarily do you need a blood test for amylase as that's the hormone that raises when the pancreas is inflamed also had that myself too in Feb 2022 caused by metronidazole (antibiotics) I wouldn't leave it go to the hospital if you.have to because either of those are excruciating pain and painkiller I take codiene that didn't help they gave me oramorph in a+e for the Gastritis, I hope you get sort soon and out of pain.

Hi Paula thank you for your reply. I’m awaiting blood results including amylase test. At the moment eating = pain but I need to eat as already lost enough weight, I’m also so anxious so that’s not helping either.

I hope they hurry up with your results its not very fair leaving you in pain like this especially if it is your pancreas as you should be under hospital care with that.

I'm sure there's a more technical name but my wife and I always referred to it as a stomach flu. You get these strong bouts of pain and it feels like your stomach muscles tenses up into a knot and it lasts 5-10 seconds. When we've had it, it usually lasts about 1-3 days depending on bad it is. It's a terrible thing to have but it does eventually goes away. Don't know what causes it and don't know if it's viral or bacterial but my guess is viral.

Hi KnicI definitely suffer from gastritis and it gives me crampy and burny pains all round my stomach area. The things that have helped me the most are drinking decaf coffee and tea, finding out what foods are acidic and avoiding them, drinking plenty of water. I also discovered that drinking mango juice is really soothing and eating mango too. So, if you do have gastritis I hope this will help you a bit.
