I have chronic gastritis and oesophagitis. The burning pain is worse by p.m. after eating in the day. I've had it for 3 yrs now, take a P.P.I but it's still there. I'm trying green tea and honey but it just won't heal and I just don't know what to eat or drink anymore. Has anyone out there healed this condition and, if so, what should I eat and drink and what should I avoid. I'd be so grateful for any input from anyone who has this problem. I don't get heartburn or burbs it just burns. Thank you

Gastritis and oesophagitis
Hi I have gastritis was given carafate it costs your stomach. Mine got so bad I ended up with an ulcer was in severe pain. It was around 2:00 in the morning this was about 4months ago I woke my partner and told him to call an ambulance the pain was so bad EMT have me two different pain shots and it barely touched it. Come morning was told I had severe peptic ulcer disease plus gastritis.. Also what caused it is gerd reflux acid coming up in esophagus which I've had for years. In 1996 I had surgery on my stomach to stop the acid from coming up. They couldn't guarantee how long it would last. It lasted several years I could eat anything and no problem. It stopped working about 10_15 years ago came back with a vengence. Oh what a relief it was. But I'm a mess now also they have me proposed helps lower acid. I also take zofra n for nausea. You should stay away from dairy products, foods with a lot of acidity in them like tomatoes, chocolate caffiene. I am 69years old so I've had this for years except for several years after surgery. I wouldn't wish this On anyone I really feel for you hope things get better. Let me know how your doing. Love susiejo1948
Hello Susiejo I'm 69 female to in the UK. My dear friend you've been through so much what with lung cancer. I've smoked all my life. Gave up for 2 yrs but due to this pain and severe depression I started again and am now giving up again but am convinced it's too late. No, I wouldn't wish this on anyone. It burns so bad each day and horrendous I'm quite disabled at times. I used to drop to my knees and beg sobbing to the Lord to just let me die. It's getting that I just don't know what to eat anymore. I try to stick to plain fish and veg . Even grapes and bananas burn. I had an endoscope May this year and I've had this for 3 plus years. P.P.Is and Gaviscon do nothing but I take them. I can't take pain meds no paracetamol helps. I also have bowel problems slow bowel transit and have to do colonic irrigation and my whole digestive tract burns like I'm on fire. I guess you understand. I am waiting to see my G.I. consultant in December for results of eating study test as I've probably got "dumping syndrome". I am so sorry to hear you went through all that stomach op only for it to cone back with a vengeance. You are a very strong brave lady and I'm honoured you took time to reply as I feel so alone . I live on my own but 2 grown kids visit often. I had pancreatitis Boxing Day 2015 and gallbladder op 2015 ...It all got worse since then. It really all stems for me from unhealthy to much fatty foods so I blame myself. I am quite disabled due to such pain as I guess you are and I have to lie down a lot. I agree with more alkaline foods no dairy chocolate caffeine although I DO drink green tea. I've never been offered any meds like you that coats the stomach. I DO have nausea meds. I feel such a mess too like you feel. I'm glad you have a partner and I pray your meds help you and the ulcers heal. It's an awful disease. I often feel it's going to turn to cancer as it's so bad but I try to stay positive now and pray as much as poss to stay upbeat for my kids as I've overdosed 3 times due to the pain. I won't do that to them again. They're 43 and 40...no grandchildren. My pain is even worse before I go to the loo and after. I wish I had a private medical insurance as then I feel I would have got better support and help. I am so glad you replied and my prayers go out to you Susiejo. I was born 1949. God bless Linda

Hello Basten. I'm in England so medication names may be different. I've had Gastric reflux disease for around 20 years now and have hiatus hernia. I take omeprazole (a PPI) twice a day but get told to double up when the reflux is bad. I also take a ranatadine at night. I recently had a gastroscopy and was diagnosed with oesohsgitis, the hiatus hernia which I knew about and stomach polyps which have probably been caused by the PPI's. I sleep on four pillows every night to try and keep the acid down but no exaggeration sometimes it has been so bad that I get woken up with a mouthful of acid and feel it at the top of my nose. I am then left with a hoarse voice for around five days as well as a wheezy cough and difficulty breathing. The doctor said as it comes up my oesphegus some goes back down through my breathing pipe so my voice gets hoarse as the acid burns my voice box and I get wheezy and a wheezy cough because acid particles get in my lungs. Things I have to avoid are spicy foods and acid foods. I also try not to eat too late at night and am also careful what I drink. The acid can burn so bad and I admit I was so scared once I went to hospital as it wouldn't stop. Oh, I also take Gaviscon three times a day. I do hope things progress for you.
Hello Janine I too like in the UK. Your regime is the same as mine except my "bruring" is all in between my shoulder blades and right down my back. I've had this 4 year now. I have a hiatus hernia, gastritis and oesophagitis. I take esomaprazole and Gaviscon but nothing stops the burning and it's worse by p.m. I lay on 6 pillows. I don't get heartburn as such. Yes I was told a low fat diet, no spices or caffeine but I DO lapse sometimes. I can't eat cake or biscuits or cheese. My food is very bland with more veg than white fish. I'm going back to my GP soon as I cry a lot when it's so bad. I didn't know PP.is can cause polyps!! I've also got dumping syndrome where food leaves stomach too quick or too slow and I think this aggravates the problem. Thankyou for replying. It's a rotten disease to live with for sop long I wonder if it will ever heal. Linda
