been having upper abdominal pain just below my ribs that radiates to the back , had it for years now and have various ultrasound , blood tests and scope done over the years
Saw a new doctor today and he reckons it’s a thoracic disc prolapse that’s giving me all my problems, not sure if anyones had any experience with this but he’s referred me to the pain clinic and trying to get mri scan organised

Hi there, that sounds exactly like my pain - now year 3 and I’ve had major concerns about liver but - had Mri - MRCP - bloods etc and all liver stuff is fine and they did find two of my vertebrae were misformed when i was a child a now older they wear together but the pain goes exactly where you say yours is - it’s so strange - but yes Thorasic is how my consultant described it
Physio gets rid of it for several hours - I’ve got a load of exercise I do each as there is no injection or surgery to get rid of it.
Yes I’ve been bothered with Gerd for years as well and all the meds am on doesn’t help , clopidogrel , 80 mg atorvastatin and 15 mg lansoprazole it’s relentless. Am started to wear a back support belt which relieves some of the pain .
Yes just recently had a scope and was diagnosed with bile reflux , so the list of things goes on and due a ultrasound next week because I’ve got build up of calcium on my testicles
So you have Bile Reflux how do they plan on treating this issue?
I just read that eating too much fat can agitate this condition and people who had their gallbladder removed have this problem. Did you have your gallbladder removed?
I relate to what you mean - it’s so persistent- you get it out of your mind some days then others your thinking this has to be the worst thing imaginable and no one can give you a straight answer
Hello there!! I just saw your post and I suffer from the similar type of pain you’re describing. I have a very high pain threshold but I know that this pain is off the charts. Does yours kind of feels like someone’s fist is under your last rib? I get it on both sides but not always both at the same type. I’m not saying that I can tell you for sure what you have but I can share my experience. I go to a chiropractor for many issues. One day, I told him about this weird pain I was having. He felt & did some acupressure release points. He determined that it’s my psoas muscle which comes from my back. It’s really true in my case as I try to go weekly to the chiropractor. When he adjusts my back…the psoas pain releases. May take 3-4 hours to kick in. But really helps me. If you get no answers elsewhere…have you ever seen a chiropractor for this or anything really? Please keep me posted. I would love to know how you’re doing. Believe me…I know this pain is excruciating and relentless.
Hi Michelle - sorry for last short reply. I’ve never tried a chiropractor- I may do, I see a physio who specialises in rehabilitation / retraining for back issues and I’m making steady progress. I’ve found in last few weeks long periods of sitting - in car or at work really bring it on, more than lifting / carrying and now trying methods with physio to train muscles to be used rather than back. Thanks
Hello mayk19!! No worries about the reply. I went through the same tests as you…CT scan, MRI, etc. Went years with no answer because my Gastroenterologist thought it was the liver or kidney or other organ. Like I stated previously, in my case it was the psoas .(p is silent) which is a thick band of muscle that radiates from the spine. …more specifically the lumbar region. It can be on the left or right side or both. Mine still acts up occasionally and the chiropractic adjustments help tremendously. It may take 3-4 hours for the adjustment to really kick in. That’s normal for most people and chiropractic. The cause of the pain can be a “short psoas muscle”. This is why chiropractic helps me. He not only adjusts my spine but makes sure my legs are an even length . It could potentially help many other issues you may have. Personally, I would ask your physio specifically about the psoas muscle. If he or she can’t help.,,.chiropractic is worth a shot. It can’t hurt. Believe me..,.I know how awful this pain can be…just debilitating. I hope that you do find some relief…this pain is totally relentless….I know. I would love to hear how you’re doing.,,,if you’re obtaining relief in some way. I’m not trying to play doctor…I’m just giving you information that has worked for me, When you have a chance…please reach out and let me know if you find an answer and how you’re doing!! Have a lovely evening 💤
