Hello

I got food poisoning from any oyster back in December 2022. 9 days later I got abdominal pain & it has never gone! The pain is very low down in my abdomen (dull ache) the pain can vary from 6/7 out of 10 to 9 out of 10 some days .I have had the worst year tried 10 different medications prescribed from my GP & Consultant Gastroenterologist. They are saying it is Post Infectious IBS caused by the food poisoning & ? fibromyalgia has now been mentioned. I am only on Pregablin now 25mgs morning & night which havent helped! I have tried accupuncture & went to a chiropracter to no avail. Just waiting on the Pain Clinic now.

Has anyone else had a similar experience please & can offer me any help. Really am desperate now living with this pain every single day! Many thanks for any help.

Kim

Do you have any bowel symptoms like constipation or loose bowels? Have they done any other tests like colonoscopy etc? Does eating make it worse?

Hello Mystar86

Thanks for replying.

I did initially have bowel problems, but normal again. Eating doesnt make it better or worse. I have had sigmoidoscopy, CT scan and all the usual blood tests which were all normal.

Hello Dundeefc14,

I am so sorry for the pain that you are in. Have any doctor mentioned Complex Regional Pain Syndrome? it seems excessive being in so much pain still. I have this condition because I was in considerable pain and I still am, 4 years later. Mine is due to a fall. If you read up about it on the website and see if you have the symptoms. It will say limbs affected but it isn't . It is any excessive pain. The problem is though doctors don't believe the condition exists. It is in my medical records and when I saw the pain specialist recently he didn't believe me when I said I had the condition, so he has referred me to a specialist hospital in Liverpool. I am waiting for an operation and I have to have a specialist team so that they can operate.

I hope this helps in some small way, let me know how you get on.

Hello Imagine1

Many thanks for your reply. No doctor has ever mentioned this, my diagnosis is post infectious IBS which I am sceptical about as i dont really have bowel problems. Fibromyalgia has been mentioned too. I am really at my wits end now! Waiting on another CT scan and the Pain Clinic which can be up to 9 months!!

Thanks again for replying.

Doctor's will not diagnose patients with this, it is a very rare condition and they don't know much about it. Please read the information on the website and let me know if you think you have got the symptoms. I find it strange that they have said that you have problems with your bowels, I have got problems with mine and I have never heard of that one before. I think they guess most of the time because they don't know. I waited a long time 2 years for an appointment to see the pain management team to be told that there is nothing he can do, what a waste of time, now I am seeing my doctor to see what he can do? probably nothing. x

Hi there. I’m SO sorry you’ve been in pain this long. It’s no fun at all.

I’d try a natural approach like helping your gut biome. Do you eat plain yogurt ? Do you drink kefir? Do you eat sauerkraut or kimchee? You need good pre and probiotic foods to heal your gut…..it’s our second brain.

Natural pain killers that can work are passionflower pills. If this affects your sleep try tryptophan at bedtime along with passionflower.

Finally, if that oyster contained a heavy metal, you may need to have chelation therapy. Do they have Naturopath’s in Scotland? Keep us posted. Good luck.

I hear you loud and clear. You must feel ‘stuck’ and I know the feeling.

I hope they’ve ruled out gastrointestinal bugs. H pylori, Shigella, Campylobacter.

I’d drink mint tea all day long.

I pray you get answers soon. Be strong.
