pain has now lessened and moved to lower middle abdomen. visited gynaecologist yesterday who says my pelvis is just “sensitive” and is just going to cause pain. still waking up at night in pain. still have mucus. for the past few months i have been experiencing some symptoms of gastroparesis so maybe it’s that? i have pretty much all the symptoms of HEDS as well which i know commonly co-occcurs with that.
thank you so much everyone for all your help.
ORIGINAL POST:
i’ve been having abdominal pain for 2 weeks now and my doctor can’t find any cause. i’m starting to wonder if i’m going nuts.
it’s been waking me up multiple times every night so i’m exhausted. the only other symptom i have other than pain is bright orange mucus in my stool… doctor doesn’t seem to be particularly fazed by this but it’s quite odd to me!
i’ve had bloods, stool test, urine test, ultrasound, and MRI with contrast and there’s nothing wrong in ANY of them. today i have been in absolute agony, i have a very high pain tolerance from years of living with chronic pain but this is something else. it’s all over the right side of my stomach. i’m currently wrapped in a heated blanket on the max setting like a burrito because it’s the only thing that helps. my doc has prescribed codydramol but it hasn’t really done anything. not really sure what to do as he seems convinced that this isn’t his problem. he has referred me to 3 different psychologists and told me to go back my gynaecologist. he’s very nice but this just seems… weird?
just wondered if anyone has any advice/has been in a similar position before. i really do not know what i’m going to do if i wake up in the same pain tomorrow.

I think you need to consider going a step further. Your GP is probably as frustrated as you are and may be hamstrung by practice protocols. Maybe you should present yourself to a and e next time you are in such pain?
It sounds like your GP has done all the appropriate tests before needing to refer. If you think this is digestive related then ask for a referral to gastroenterology, but if you think it might be gynaecological then definitely ask for that. If the GP refuses (I am assuming you are in the UK) then ring PALS and explain the situation and ask for advice. They will be able to tell you the next step.
In the mean time, Jambo is right, if you are in a lot of pain then (again, if you are in the UK) contact 111 and book a slot in A&E.
Hi It took me along time to find out what the pain in my stomach was. I would have to go to emergency a couple times a year with debilitating pain.they ran all the usual tests and said I had a bowel blockage. The pain would go away by morning. Got no real answers till the last time I went to emergency. The doctor told me I had lesions in my abdomen . And to find an OMM doctor. It worked ! OMM’s are like a chiropractor but work with your soft tissue instead of cracking your bones. My doctor could manipulate and massage and loosen the lesions. And is covered by Medicare . Just a copay. Also he helped with other areas of pain.
I also think you should go to A&E. This could be any number of things including gall bladder stones or IBS. But it is only with examination that doctors can figure out what the problem is. The best time to do this is when you are actually experiencing the pain.
You could be having gallbladder problems my husband had abdominal pains with his and pretty intense at times. Orange colored mucus could be blood and doesn’t sound normal.
Trust your doctor.... maybe! Time to fire up your Google skills!
I'm living without a gallbladder because it took 3 ambulance trips to the ER and several doctors visits to figure out it was gallstones. But instead of dealing with it he said" Oh, we'll just pull it out, it's useless anyhow." WTF!!!
Since that day, trust in doctors sank somewhere near the plumbers & shady auto mechanics - no offense to the good ones
Try to figure out what it CAN'T be and work back from there.
You need to see a gastro Dr because you need more specific tests run . Most specifically would be an EGD and a stomach emptying test. You might also want to have them check your gallbladder for stones. I am rather surprised that your doctor hasn't offered any of these types of tests. If it is pain and not nausea it could be gastroparesis or diverticulitis. There are many things that can cause pain and nausea including gastritis, GERDS and ulcers. None of these can be diagnosed without an EGD.
I thought I might be the only one to have dreadful pain, supposedly without any reason. For a couple of years I had an unbearable pain in my right lower back/hip area. Because it was an intermittent pain there was apparently nothing wrong with me.....tests proved that to be so. After all tests known to the medics had been completed I was finally referred to a psychiatrist. I was sure this would show I was quite mad. After being subjected to a few unhelpful remarks from physios about my imaginary pain, I knew I would be diagnosed with some kind of mental illness. Being labelled "mad" didn't bother me, I was grateful. It meant I had a diagnosis, it was all in my head, and at last I could be treated and cured. Sadly, that did not happen. The psychiatrist's assessment suggested I had a second X- Ray, two years after the first one. I reluctantly had the second X- Ray which I knew would reveal nothing was wrong with me, I would be back to square one again with the pain worsening. I was wrong. This X- Ray showed the cause of the pain to be arthritis........ the first X Ray had been mis-read.
