I am the old my posting is new so if my posts are protracted or confusing please bear with me and I will improve.
I have bad days when I can funtion and then very bad days when I cant.
Unfortunatley my pain levels over the last week have been unbearable and I went to seek medical help from the urgent care centre,
The doctor was very kind but said my case was complicated however eventually offered me tramadyl or noro morph pain medication that I had not taken before. I declined as I live alone and thought I might get it wrong
He said these pain killers should be taken with utmost caution and they are very strong
Can anybody tell me their experience after first using either of these drugs.

This hopefully provide some information you can use to make a decision.
You say: "I have bad days when I can function and then very bad days when I cant." This gives clues that there is something you can do to help yourself that is drug free. Muscle issues have an input in how much pain you experience. BY developing better muscle control you can function better.
Alexander Technique is not helpful when a muscle has gone into spasm and needs to be un contracted. You need massage therapists for this. McTimony Chiropractic can remove a lot of microcramps that you may have which will improve your functioning.
Lack of sleep interferes with the fine control of muscle. Loss of fine muscle control has the potential to increase the pain and and discomfort that one experiences. Try getting time for a sleep during the day. The brain gets rid of waste products only when it is sleeping not when it is awake. My experience is that pain interferes with sleep.
Unfortunately all my ills stem from a work accident in April 2007 when I was hit in the throat with aheavy falling counter hatch. I tried to get medical help but none was forthcoming waiting one and half years for1st ENT consultation.
After muliple tests with always NAD declared on reports.
However in December 2010 I saw an NHS Colchester scan report that disclosed my throat fractures. I was told to see a Pyschologist.
In 2014 I tries to get another larynx xray but Consultant Radiologists refused to let me undertake it.
However the fractured obstrution that jabs into my throat 24/7 and sometimes causes me breathing and standing issues started to manifest chonic pain on the left side of my throat and neck plus tinnitus in Jan 2018.
once again I went all out seeking medical intervention but received a hostile response
In December 2018 I was an admission emergency with acute diverticulitus that responded to treatment with in days but I had lost weight and was only 6 stone.
my ENT issues were cited as secondary medical complaint and I was taken by wheelchair from the ward and underwent 3 CT scans with contrast in 20 minutes.
As per usual the scans were declared NAD but I was informed that I now have radiological emphasima caused by the excess CT scans.
So not only did they once again fail to help my throat injuries they made me ill.
I have never had an explanation or apology and the GP that I am registered with who I have only seen once when she came to my house after hospital discharge states there is nothing wrong with me and that I am mentally challenged
I am broken by the entire scenario as at present I have been housebound since hospital release and have received very little help or support.
All I wanted after my accident was to get fixed and return to work.
I apologise for the lenthy reply but sometimes the truth takes longer to explain than lies.
I will try to make my next question/reply much shorter
Once again many thanks John your input has been invluable
I think you have grounds to sue the NHS. You need to make enquiries quickly.
You say: "GP...states there is nothing wrong with me and that I am mentally challenged". I would say the stress you under makes you mentally challenged. Been there got the T-shirt.
There may be a centre near you. Some offices deal with benefit issues like ESA and PIP.
Many of the local churches will know of the local voluntary agencies that you can get help from.
You need what ever help you can get quickly to avoid having a breakdown. I have discovered that once you have a breakdown you never recover the ability to handle stress like you once did.
As you are about to take on the NHS. Make sure you run things through a spelling checker. Write your evidence of complaint. Do not present it. Re-read it a few hours later or next day. Edit the mistakes. Leave a gap of a few hours. Check it again. If okay then present it.
There is a free program known as espeakNG. eSpeakNG is a compact, open source, software speech synthesizer for Linux, Windows, and other platforms. It has found quite a few embarrassing errors in my written work on occasion.
It is the nature of things that we read what we think is there not what is there. The better the written presentation the more seriously they take you.
Hi I use norspan patches which so relieve pain and they come in all different milligrams ask your dr, the medication they have offered you is rubbish sorry to say.
Hi emma nice to hear from you Sorry just replying but only have net upstairs on computer and I have been down
You are both right the NHS has put me through hell for a long time without recourse or conscience. I can not say for sure as I have not yet had the courage to disect Radiological Emphasima but it is written on my discharge data so they are not bothered about disclosing it.
Since my discharge on 3rd Jan 2019 i have felt quite unwell and not been able to turn the corner which is a first for me as I am a pretty onward and upward personality.
Plus I have lost brushfuls of hair and contantly feel like I have the flu starting
I think it might be radiation sickness but it is slowly subsiding and I am waiting for the right time to try to seek acccountabilty and transparancy
Where I live there are only 2 gp surgeries and I have just registered with the second but waiting to see if they will accept me before I try to move forward.
If they do not I am stuck with the practice that has written multiple misinformation and gp entries on my records. The practice is a shambles but extremely cocky and dont seem to care about duty of care.
I have only been registered there a year but in one report they state I have been a very difficult patient for 4 years. When I first ask for pain medication they told me to buy my own etc etc
So Hopefully I will find out this week where I am registered.#
Sorry it is so long winded but you forlk are so caring it is like talking to family.
I hope your life is going forward and that you get to have more good days than bad
