Please read all: Okay so I’m a girl, 14 years old, weigh around 11 stone but I am tall so no one I know including me would class me as overweight. Since I was around seven years old I remember having chest pains. It started off as being this pain for around twice a year for around 4 years, Every time I took a breath I felt an unexplainable sharp pain so I could only take tiny mini breaths without crying my eyes out. It still happens now but when I was around nine my chest became extremely tender to the touch and every time it’s touched it hurts and I remain in absolute agony when it’s hit. When I was little doctors gave me an asthma pump thinking it was what I needed but it wasn’t in fact it didn’t help one bit. Been to the doctors about it for pasivally 8 years without any help apart from doctors saying I’m growing and then checking my heart beat. In the summer my chest pain hurt from my chest through to my back and even the pain would sometimes travel to my arm. My chest can become extremely tight too. Pain is usually on left side but can switch to right side sometimes I have been told by a nurse at my school it could be panic attacks but I get panic attacks sometimes and I know what those feel like on my chest and it’s extremely bearable for me compare to what I have usually. It hurts so when I breath in sometimes like almost a deep heavy pain. I used to feel dizzy allot and the doctors took my blood and checked me for things like diabetics and iron difficencies and it all came out clear. I would really appreciate it if someone could help, thank you.

None of us are medical professionals here so we can't diagnose you. There are so many things that could be happening. Do you have any other symptoms from other parts of your body? Do you get heartburn?

How much do you know about anatomy? Between all your ribs are muscles and tendons, and there are tendons and muscles that join your ribs onto your sternum, your breastbone. All these muscles and tendons can become strained just like an ankle sprain. Has this, which is called costochondritis, been eliminated by your doctors?

I wish you luck in getting to the bottom of this problem as I can tell that it is really taking a toll on your quality of life.

Hi there,

I experienced these very same symptoms as you. I have Ankylosing Spondylitis it is very painful and sudden bouts leave you in agony and you cannot breathe. I feel your pain. Go back to Dr demand a ct scan for this as it causes wedged vertebrae In spine and swelling of cervical area. I had 20 odd years of on and off pain I felt like I was mad nobody understood the pain. I was told that I had scheurmans childhood arthritis after ct scan revealed damage to bones. I take amitriptyline and mirtazapan this helps a lot. Good luck :)
