Hey all, new to the forum and just after a bit of advice...
Almost 2 years ago now, on my honeymoon, myself and my wife done a cliff dive into water from about 40 feet. It didn't go as planned and I landed quite funny in the water. At the time I felt fine. The next day however I was due to go scuba diving and had to cancel as I had difficulty breathing and severe pains in my chest. This was quite bad for a few days and then the breathing improved. When I got home I booked an appointment with my doctor, maybe a month after the incident. Without even looking at or feeling my chest she told me that it is just muscle pain and it would go away. Almost 2 years later and the pain is still there... I have some difficulties with short breath sometime but not often, the pain however is now almost constant... if I sneeze or cough now it brings me to tears. The other day was the worst it has been, it is usually a little swollen but the other day it was really bad and all day was a constant pain, I could barely move. I am also constantly feeling tired and run down, not sure if it is related as I have always had bad sleeping problems.
I have recently moved house and signed up to a new doctors, I have my induction with the nurse today and hoping to get an appointment with the GP pretty urgently.
I done some research online and it seems it could possibly be a sternum fracture? Just a little worried as my family has quite the history of heart problems... not sure what to do...
Thanks guys,
D

It could well be a fracture so hopefully your new doctor Will send you for some exrays or M.R.I scan. You shouldn't be in pain after all this time if it was muscular. It definitely needs checking out so if this doctor doesn't do anything to help then see another one. Don't be ignored.
Check it out - fingers crossed that it's some very slow-to-clear bone bruising (the ribs take a fairly short time to regenerate in bone turnover terms but it's still approx. only 4.7% of rib bone is replaced over one year). It sounds like you need to be assessed. It's worth it for your peace of mind.
I see the nurse last night and she advised to take ibuprofen for 5 days straight to see if it goes down first to rule out inflammation before doing anything else...
This has gone on long enough, you have worried and struggled with this since your honeymoon . When you get your appointment insist on your GP referring you on, if only to put your mind at rest.
This is impacting in your life, even if you don't realize it. Sometimes we have to insist, if we don't how is the GP to know the seriousness of your concerns?
I too have problem from time to time. Mine is a muscle on my back, level with the lungs. It is very painful and any sneeze etc is amplifying the pain. As it's in the front, the GP will send you for a Xray, or better still a MRI. Insist that you are worried about this and the length of time it has been a problem. Tell them it brings you to tears on any sharp movement. You should get a better diagnosis.
