OxyContin is there a better painkiller?
Hi Dan
Thanks for the reply.
I'm on 40mg OxyContin 2 times a day
150mg of lyrics (pregabaline) 2 a day
10-20mg amitriptylene at night
50mg Levothyroxine 1 a day
I'm not sure it's just the OxyContin but I suffer from still chronic pain in back and neck.i have had a Mri scan in 2009 which confirmed I had problems with l1-l5 disc.
The Levothyroxine is for a low thoroid problem.
I have had 2 lots of pain management ending with a steroid injection which didn't work.
I have seen a psychiatrist for depression which he said the reason was because of the chronic back pain (what a tool) so was a waste of time.
I suffer from fatigue, dizziness, drowsiness, fatigue, sleepless nights sometimes for 3 days, sweats, depression and anxiety.
Hi I'm rather similar to you disc 2-7 in my neck are crumbling! I'm on OxyContin also and duloxetine antidepressants...I agree with Dan amytriptylene I used to sleep walk and other crazy things!! My neighbor was same she used to go sleep walking outside!!! I'm still struggling with sever pain and even with sleeping pills still can't as its excruciating! Regards Jo
I notice most people on here are on a drug from the "opiate" family which is addictive and rank for the health. Please seek advise from you tube for other ways to help pain. I was also on a narcotic drug from the "opiate" family but am now CLEAN. My eyes are brighter as my skin and don't have the side effects because my body was craving more my tolerance reached it's point.
Hi Mac 61, how strange is that, I'm having exactley the same issues as you as you will see from my posts( or moans)your on a big wack of oxy there for a start, i was on 400 mg of zomorph at one point,, all those drugs are going to bring you down even at lower doses on the oxy which is well known for going bad on you after a while, I'm binning my motphine for tapentadol that dan mentioned , I' honestly think my fatigue comes from being on duloxatine, it is a good drug for a while but has some serious withdrawal issues. Look on face book cymbalta hurts worse.
You are on an "Opiate" drug. Please please please get help from you tube by the videos etc a wealth of knowledge. Please - and get off the DRUG. Get Clean. I did and don't suffer the side effects anymore. I'm clean with the help of going on you tube. And I feel proud.

Hello Mac
My husband has been on Oxycntin for about 4 months now and side effects are outweighing any pain relief - which by the way has been brilliant. He is on a much higher dose than you having worked his way up the pain meds ladder the past 30yrs.
I won't mention how he will come off the Oxycontin - thats a tale for another post.
Probably the worse side effecy he gets is itching. All over contiluously. He does have COPD too so breathing can be hard.
I hope it is one of the other meds causing your symptoms as Oxy really is very good.
Dan will sort you out!! He sorts us all out!!

Absolutely! Try Tepantedol.
Thanks to you all for your input.
Pat I have been told I will have to take OxyContin for the rest of my life. The withdrawal from it would be the same as a heroin addict.decrease dosage steadily.
No you wont. David has to come off it and at the moment we are waiting to hear from the pai consultant what he will use inbetween coming off and moving to new meds. It just takes a very very long time. If you want some idea there are loads of answers to one of my posts under Paton. If it helps have a look.

Yes Dan I had a blood test last Friday for low thoroid and kidneys and cholesterol.previous ones I have had have come back as OK.
Hi Dan
I been looking on the web about testosterone.you could be right.I have appointment this Friday to get my blood results and a general health exam with the nurse at my doctors I will mention it to her thanks mate.
Hi Dan,
I've been reading some of the posts on pain and the management of it and noticed you seem to have a lot of experience or knowledge on the medication.
On this post you put that Tapentadol is usually used 4th in line.
What does that mean exactly ??
I'm taking Tapentadol 250mg twice a day and Oxynorm 20mg 5 times a day for breakthrough pain.
I am usually on a lower dose but I have a SCS fitted and unfortunately the battery has run out leaving me in absolute agony. I'm climbing the walls at the moment and with approximately 18 weeks wait for a new battery fitting I don't know which way to turn.
Many years ago I was on MST & Oramorph but it got to such a high dose it was ridiculous. They then put me on OxyContin & Oxynorm (after weeks of horrific withdrawal symptoms) and that was going the same way.
I then had the stimulator fitted thanks to an amazing Dr at the pain clinic. It was a god send, they changed me then to the Tapentadol as it apparently works in 2 ways (is it the pain and on brain signals) I could be wrong on that fact.
All was going relatively well until it ran out over Xmas. I just can't get any relief around the fracture areas in my spine, caused by Osteoporosis which was apparently caused by the years of taking opiates.
I'd just like your opinion on Tapentadol and what that 4th line means.
Many thanks.
Hi! I use Tepantedol 75mg 6x/day and Butrans patch 20 mg with excellent pain relief results. Tepantedol is actually prescribed for moderate to severe pain and has been FDA approved for chronic pain use. Here are some reviewsdrugs.com/comments/tapentad...
I personally don't like OxyContin because of the horrendous withdrawals if you need to get off it.
Tapentadol is a narcotic and 75mg x6 is quite a fair bit to be on. Most "opiate" drugs are good pain relieving drugs but that is what they are a DRUG.
4th in line I take to be after the first three of medication but whatever it means you are taking a narcotic Tapentadol is an "opiate". Did no one explain this to you? Any "opiate" is highly addictive also Tapentadol can cause serious breathing problems. Google it.
My experience with Tepantedol has been very positive. I take 75mg 6 x/day and use a 20 mg Butrans patch. Covers my pain and doesn't make me feel tired or spacey. There are many alternatives to OxyContin and it does seem by reading these posts that quite a few people have bad side effects from it. Just be prepared because getting off of it can be bad. Explore opioid pain killers on the Internet for a list of what's available. Good luck!
Hi
I went for the results of blood test and mentioned about testosterone to the nurse who made a note for doctor.my results come back ok also heart, liver and kidneys ok.only thing was my low thoroid I take 50mg has been tweaked to 75mg.
Hi dan , what is opiod induced endocronapathy ? I think I've got the hypoganodism from years or testosterone use in the gym.
Opiod is from the family "Opiate" and resembles the compound Herione. STOP.
Mac61, go on You tube where there is a wealth of advice. I have DDD and was on dehydrocodiene for 4 years but learned they were from the "opiate" family. I was never told this but am now clean. I self medicate (learning how to from you tube) and learned the big thing is to get down inflammation. What a difference. Turmeric is great for that and I buy the organic capsules from ebay as the essential turmeric oil I rub on my back I have little or no pain. Please go to You tube Mac61 - there is a wealth of knowledge on there.
