Why do I feel sharp pains though my head?
I had the same thing a while ago which did worry me i went to my doctor and he sent me for a scan when the consultant saw me just after the scan he said there is good news and bad news, the good news is you do not have a tumor or anything like that which you must have been thinking about but the bad news is your head is going to fall off, the pain was due to spondylosis in your neck which is a form of arthritis where the bones start crumbling in the neck he then went on to say i was the worse case he had seen in his career and he expected me to have to wear a support collar within a year and after that a frame screwed into my skull that was 14 years ago i never went back i just try to make sure my head is supported when ever i can and stay away from anything that rocks about.
what i am trying to say is don't worry so much (which you must be doing even if you don't admit it just like i was) and go and see your doctor most of the time there is not much wrong.
For me the reason for the pain was my neck muscles were straining to hold my head up instead of the bones.

I think my grandpa has that because he has plates I. His neck to support his head. But I am having neck problems that just started but I don't know if it's just the migraines.
HI,
I've suffered from migraines since I fell nearly 20ft straight on to my head, just over 3 and a half years back, I have been diagnosed with post trauma headache and migraines, but since my accident I have been getting some pains in my back it originally started in my neck but gradually got worse and the pain has spread down my back, I have been to the doctor's on a few occasions and all they say is that it's nothing to worry about, but I am worried and have been since the pain in my neck got so bad one night I was on the verge of having a panic attack, I was almost in tears and was even tempted to wake up my mum to ring an ambulance because the pain was getting so bad.
I'm just worried, what should I do? I've been to the doctor's quite often since my head/brain injury and my legs that I think they think I'm a hypochondriac, but I'm not, I only go when I need to or when I'm forced to go should I say.
Any help will be gratefully received.
Glad you're okay! I have an anxiety disorder so I freak out about every little thing wrong with me. My grandpa got his neck broken when he was a truck driver. Since then he has had troubles since. He has plates in his neck, arthritis, and a bone disease that decreases the bone density I do believe. But if you're feeling the way you do, then you should have it checked as in getting a X-ray, MRI, ct, etc. they shouldn't gore the fact your in pain.
Thank you for your response, a nurse at my doctor's did me a referral for my legs and I waited for 4 months then rang up the referral place last week and they didn't receive anything so had to go back and get a 2nd referral sent from a locum doctor, which he didn't have to. I actually went to the doctor's last time to ask for a referral to see a neurologist to get my head properly seen to because the one I saw last year didn't listen to me about the problems I have, he was more bothered about sorting out my migraines and that was it, but when I went to see the doctor forgot to ask for the 2nd referral to see a neurologist, because people on headway say I've suffered brain damage and need to get it checked out to see how bad it is.
I think your talking about osteoporosis, my nan suffered from that for quite a few years before she passed away, not because of the osteoporosis though.
Thank you for replying, will book an appointment to see a doctor and get my neck and back sorted out.
I would agree with others that it's a good idea to get it checked out. However, do you get migraines? There is a headache type called ice-pick headaches, which are just as you describe and are more common in people who also get migraines. If you are worried, then it's definitely a good idea to have a word with your GP.
I get the same and I also have spondylosis. It comes and goes with no rhyme or reason to it. If this is a first for you and it is starting to affect you badly I would just go and have a word with your doctor.x
Do you also get neck pain from the migraines?
Hi Samibvb I just wondered if you are coming off any antidepressants? Because that can be what they call brain zaps,if that's the case they are harmless. But yes do check with your Gp.
I use too but not no more, but yes I will see my go because now I developed neck pain.
Sounds like ice pick headaches, which are a type of migraine. I am being treated for chronic migraine and these are some of my most common types of head pain, I can get these pains up to thirty times a day at worst.
I also had them every few seconds for five hours after the neurologist took me off some medication he had prescribed to help my migraines. It was horrendous.
I would recommend speaking to your Dr to make sure and to put your mind at rest though.
