Have you tried a TENS machine? They are easily available - the best ones online. It can take quite a while to experiment with the best places to put the electrodes and the best program to select. The sensations are actually quite pleasant.

If you want any more information just message me - they are the only thing that works for me!

Hello

If you are standing, holding the child you will be putting extreme pressure on the shoulders and spine, this will be the same while sitting on a rocking chair it is all to do with posture, the arms of the chair will not be able to support your elbows well, even when sitting your pine will be effected because you are out of balance holding a weight in arms.

The legs will be sore from the lower back and will transmit down the legs so your spine is objecting.

Various things can be done a TENS can be used, that will suppress pain as will medications

as your condition is chronic

Posture is very important when dealing with spine you will need to practice posture so that the spine is straight, and the neck is in the correct position straight chin in, shoulders back

an when sitting your arms should rest flat on the arms of the seat.

One thing that is possible is that you purchase a high seat, say from HSL this will alllow the body to form good posture, you will need to find out where a shop is located, they will help in your choice for comfort

Sorry that I cannot give any really positive ideas, I do not know if you are in a wheelchair etc,

All you need to do is be careful and enjoy more cuddles

Good luck

Hi Bob

You said:

Sorry to be predantic. The spine should not be straight. It has a slight curve to it. The head is balanced on the top of the spine. This results in the chin being a certain position as a result of the head balancing at the top of the spine.

Chin in often results in people pullin their chin in with muscular tension from doing so. What we want is little or no muscular tension.

I think I know what you meant. It is just that what you said can be so easily miss applied and miss interpreted. Remember the saying "What I meant is not necesily what I wrote."

Hello john

One of the main problems that we have is to slouch, the head puts stress on the neck, the spine will correct if you straighten up,the spine will respond to this and revert to a more comfortable position, we need to concentrate the stress down the full length of the spine, not against the curve of the spine. If you sit badly at a computer screen, stress is caused in the shoulder, neck region

It is akward to try and explain how to do this, the corrections are not that noticed the main thing we are trying to do is distribute weight.

Many people in the past were very erect, they used to get wrong for slouching. Would we be better saying straighten neck, this would follow the spinal curve

How would you describe the right position of the spine I might learn something new, I am always up for that

All the best

Hi Bob

There is no right position. That is what my Alexander Teacher tells me. There is right muscular attitude.

I still remember my first Alexander Lesson. I had read the book and thought I knew what the book was talking about. The hands of the teacher showed me that it was something very different from what I thought I understood.

When I have given someone a lesson I can tell them what is required and they would to a certain extent understand what I am saying. Trying to explain without using my hands makes the description non understandable.

We have two positions one from standing and one from sitting.

Sitting

We sit in the sitting bones. We endevour to allow the spine to balance on the pelvis and the head balance on top of the spine. We seek to use as little muscular effort as possible. Muscular effort is replaced by thinking effort. We sit by endevouring not to tighten muscle. If you can do this the spine will find its right position with respect to gravity.

Standing

We endevour to have the weight between the ankles. The foot touches the floor in three places (correction it feels like it is touching the floor in three places).

The pelvis is in line with the legs and the spine balances on top of the pelvis and the head balances on top of the spine. Remeber the head is heavy and so if it is not balanced you will need muscle to hold the head.

Endevouring to balance with as little muscular effort as possible will put everything into the right position with respect to gravity.

Again muscular effort is replaced by thinking effort.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you understand what I am trying to get at and if it works.

Hello john

I took mine from spine associations and pain clinic, many say lift the head and lookout straight, one problem you have is if you keep it simple the patient will understand more and will be able to adapt to a position that is easy to maintain, the main problem people have is body balance also people twist around and this can and is a problem, I do take on board what you say, although we are living in a world of quick fixes

When I did all this many years ago it was more important to get the patient to get instant relief the rest was to follow.

Even now I have spinal problems, I follow what was explained to me, even now and my posture is still good although in pain, from many areas of the spine and neck.

I understand what you are saying is correct, although we need to find ways that do not confuse, that will prevent them from taking on good practice

Thanks

All the best

Are you on any meds? If not, get your paracetamol levels up with two tabs every four hours, no more than four times a day. Aspirin with codeine is another OTC you might try.

Hello

What is your, pain regime ??
